Couple celebrates 65th wedding anniversary

Rosemary and Delbert Pierce Sr. of Fonda recently were the honored guests at their 65th wedding anniversary celebration. Their children hosted the party at the Raindancer, in Perth.

Rosemary Lane Widmer of Herkimer and Delbert Smith Pierce of Glen were married on Aug. 26, 1944, at the Dutch Reformed Church, Herkimer. Their attendants were the best man, Joseph Widmer, brother of the bride; and the maid of honor was Winifred (Widmer) Downey, sister of the bride.

They have five children, Delbert (Rosemarie) Pierce Jr. of Schenectady, Diane (Jim) Walion of Delmar, Albany County, Richard (Susan) of St. Louis, Mo., Betsy (Jim) Peck of Johnstown, Janet (Jim) Eagles of Maryland; nine grandchildren, Matthew Pierce, Michael (Kristen) Pierce, all of Connecticut, Justine Pierce of Colorado, Seren (Philip) Chipps of Gloversville, Kelly (Jake) Seamster of Esperance, Schoharie County, Amy Pierce of Harlem, New York County, Lindsey Peck of Johnstown, Mark Eagles and Nick Eagles of Maryland; four great-grandchildren, Matthew and Katelyn Pierce of Connecticut, Sierra and Dakota Chipps of Gloversville.

They owned several diary farms in the town of Glen, retiring from farming in 1971. Rosemary Pierce went to work at Wells House, Johnstown, and retired in 1986.

Delbert Pierce worked at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital until retirement in 1983.

Their children were raised in the Reformed Church in Glen and Fonda. They continue to be faithful members of the Fonda Reformed Church.

They both enjoy gardening (Winghaven Gardens) and maintain extensive beds of flowers and shrubbery at their home.
