Couple celebrates 50th wedding anniversary

Don and Carol Coon of Gloversville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family on Aug. 2, at a party on Canada Lake.

Carol Chetwynd, born in Gloversville and daugher to the late Dorothy and Jack Chetwynd, and Donald Coon, born in Meco and son to the late Iva and Albert Coon, were married on April 25, 1959. Their wedding party included Douglas Coon, Ralph Bradt, Joanne Gunther, Jerry Chetwynd, Audrey Gargulio, Barbara Canizo, Wayne Coon and Vicky Nellis. They were married at Trinity Episcopal Church by the Rev. Harold P. Kaulfus.

They were honored by their three children, Jeffrey and wife, Robin Coon and grandchildren Derrick and Jillian Coon of Gloversville, Michael and wife Valarie Coon of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and Thomas Coon of Charlottesville, Va., as well as an additional 65 family and friends from Meco, Gloversville, Saratoga, Virginia and Tennessee.

Don Coon worked for over 35 years for GTE/Contel Telephone Co., retiring in 1994. He enjoys shooting skeet with friends at The Pine Tree Rifle Club.

Carol Coon worked for Acme grocery company and the Grand Union, retiring in 1996. She enjoys water aerobics, playing cards and traveling with her friends and is a member of the Red Hat Society and the senior center.
