WELLS - The 59th annual Olde Home Days got off to a slow start, but people starting filing in slowly as the evening went on.

As the event started, attendees started filtering into the shopping area next to the town community center, while a craft fair took place inside. On the opposite side of the building, carnival rides and games waited for area children to finally drag their parents over to them.

Arlene Rambash of Benson, however, managed to draw an early crowd as she had a family of about eight over three generations at her stand in the craft fair portion of the event and gave them a wool-spinning demonstration and showed them other weaving machines.

Rambush said she has traveled to other events around the area and said she wasn't surprised that things started slowly late Friday afternoon and into the early evening. She had a spot in the Olde Home Days craft fair last year as well.

"People are just getting here and getting set up," she said. "Tomorrow, with the parade and everything else going on, you'll see a lot more people here."

There was plenty to do earlier in the day as things started off with swimming races at the town beach and finished with dancing to the "County Line Rebels."

The craft fair, antique show and other exhibits will take place today from noon until 9 p.m.

The parade, which is titled, "Wells: A four Season Play Ground" will step off at 1 p.m. There will be food, rides and bingo starting at 10 a.m. and finishing at the end of the night at 11 p.m. There will be dancing to "Peaceful country" from 8 to 11 p.m. and fireworks over Lake Algonquin at 10 p.m.

Following the fireworks, there will be drawings for prizes, which are sponsored by area churches and organizations. One of the items raffled off will be the Sacandaga Quilt and there will be a 50/50.

During the event, there also are sign-ups for Sunday's Alicia Miller Lake Run, which is sponsored by the Wells Central School future Business Leaders of America.

Even though this year's event is still going on, organizers are already thinking about next year's event, which will be the 60th annual.

Organizers said there will be a meeting Sept. 17 at the Wells Volunteer Ambulance Corps. building at 7 p.m.
