Morrison masters muddy motocross event at Royal
By The Leader-HeraldCAROGA LAKE - Johnstown's Jason Morrison conquered a sloppy, muddy course on a rainy afternoon to pick up the win Saturday in the plus-25 expert class during Sunday's Monster Motocross Central New York Motocross Riders Association (District 3) event at Royal Mountain Ski Area.
In the women's 85-250cc class, Johnstown's Lisa McMillan was fourth and Amsterdam's Kaitlyn Phillips was fifth.
Gloversville's Cameron Eutermarks was third in the 125 two-stroke class, while Fort Plain Kenneth Crouse III was fourth.
Palatine Bridge's Dustin Watson was second in the quad expert class, while Palatine Bridge's Dan Herting was fourth in the quad amateur class.
Fort Plain's Zackery Kollar was fourth in the junior mini 9- to 11-year-old class, Gloversville's Adam Handy was fourth in the 122-250cc expert class, Fonda's Clayton Blowers was third in the plus-40 expert class and Fonda's Tyler Blowers was sixth in the 50cc senior stock 7- to 8-year-old class.
Little Falls' Cole Fredericks, South Cairo's Cody Veverka, Clifton Park's Dennis Baldwin (plus-40 expert) and Whitesboro's Mitch Daugherty each picked up a pair of wins Sunday.
Fredericks won the 85cc 12- to 15-year-old and open mini 10- to 16-year-old class, Baldwin won the plus-40 expert and plus-30 expert classes.
Veverka won the 122-250cc amateur and 122-open amateur class, while Daugherty won the 122-250cc expert and 122-open expert classes.
Other winners included Oneonta's Mason Pierce (mini quad 90cc), Holland Patent's Seth Reese (mini quad 50cc), Waterville's Jeremy Edwards (50cc junior stock 4-6), Pennellville's Dominic Grenga (50cc oil injected), Pennellville's Anthony Grenga (50cc senior stock 7-8), Bovina's Ryan Sluiter (junior mini 9-11), Roxbury's James Peters (122-250cc novice), Rome's Mark Grasso (plus-40 amateur), Middle Grove's Kevin Uebrick (125 schoolboy 12-16), Unadilla's Austin Toomey (collegeboy 14-24), Hannibal's Tim Wiestner (125 two-stroke), Malone's Merrick Manley (122-open novice), Saratoga Springs' Shawn McKenna (plus-30 amateur), Edmeston's Michael Talbot (quad expert), Cooperstown's Theodore VanBrink (quad amateur) and Bainbridge's Nathan Seymour (quad novice.
A total of 385 riders took part in the event.
Royal Mountain will be back in action Wednesday with a Monster Supercross event. Practice will begin at 7 p.m. with racing immediately following.
