Pollak posts strong showing at Royal Mountain

CAROGA?LAKE - The first day of a two-day Central New York Motocross Riders Association event took place Saturday at Royal Mountain?Ski Area.

A total of 351 riders were on hand Saturday.

Johnstown's Kyle Pollak was the lone local rider to pick up a win as he claimed finished first overall in the open mini 10-to 16-year-old class. He also finished second in the 125 two-stroke class.

Montgomery's Jay Weller won the 122-open expert and 122-250cc expert classes Saturday, while Andrew Bristol won the 125 two-stroke and 125 schoolboy 12- to 16-year-old classes.

Mount Upton's Ryan Zaveral also picked up a pair of overall wins, claiming the 122-250cc amateur and 122-open amateur crowns.

Other winners included Greenfield's Adam Peris (quad novice), Feura Bush's Mark Wallace (quad amateur), Edmeston's Michael Talbot (quad expert), Greenfield's Maxwell Peris (mini quad 90cc), Burlington Flats' Cicelia Thompson (mini quad 50cc), Waterville's Jeremy Edwards (50cc junior stock 4-6), Pennellville's Dominic Grenga (50cc oil injected) and Mohawk's Hunter Shaut (50cc senior stock 7-8).

Margaretville's Casey Hubbell won the women's 85-250cc class, while Roxbury's James Peters (122-open novice), Petersburg's Scott Phelps (plus-30 expert), Malone's Cory Bogett (plus-30 amateur), Bovina's Ryan Sluiter (junior mini 9-11) and Johnsonville's Brian Falzo (collegeboy 14-24) also posted overall wins in their respective classes.

Kyle Skinkis of Edinboro, Pa. won the 122-250cc novice class with Little Falls' Cole Frederick (85cc 12-15), Schoharie's Todd Cleveland (plus-40 expert), Whitehall's James Austin (plus-40 amateur), Westerlo's Michael Kehoe (plus-30 novice), Glens Falls' JoeDiBella (plus-45), Baldwinsville's Nathan Redmond (65cc 7-11), West Chazy's Shawn Nutt (plus-25 expert) and Gansevoort's Andrew Darrah (plus-25 amateur) also earning wins.

Several area riders posted top-five finishes.

In the 122-250cc expert class, Mayfield's B.J. Smith was third and Gloversville's Adam Handy was fifth. Handy also placed fifth in the 122-open expert class, while Smith placed second in the collegeboy 14- to 24-year-old class.

Fort Plain's Zackery Kollar was third in the junior mini 9- to 11-year-old class, while Fort Plain's Spencer Mang was third in the 65cc 7- to 11-year-old class.

In the 125 two-stoke class, Fort Plain's Kenneth Crouse III was third and St. Johnsville's Andrew Duesler was fourth.

Palatine Bridge's Dustin Watson was fifth in the quad expert class.

Gloversville's Brandon Handy was fifth in the 50cc senior stock 7-8 year old class, Northville's Daniel Ashcroft was third in the 85cc 12- to 15-year-old class and Johnstown's Jason Morrison was fifth in the plus-25 expert class.
