GLOVERSVILLE - Sixth Ward Councilman Ray Hindes has declared his candidacy for councilman-at-large.

Hindes made the announcement at the Senior Citizens Service Center of Gloversville & Fulton County on Friday. Hindes, 61, is a Democrat serving his first term on the Common Council. He is married and has three children.

Hindes said he visits City Hall several times a week and regularly discusses various issues with department heads.

"As Councilman-at-large, I will continue to do my homework and work cooperatively with the city's departments to keep taxes down," Hindes wrote in a statement.

Second Ward Councilman John Castiglione and 3rd Ward Councilman James Robinson, both Republicans, have announced they plan on seeking the position. It is held by James Handy, who said Friday he is undecided about a re-election bid.

Former councilwoman Shirley Savage announced she was seeking the position as well, but she rescinded her candidacy in order to run for 4th Ward Supervisor.
