As a member of the Great Sacandaga Lake community for the past 50 years, I would like to express my thanks to that community for its support with our recent dust-up with the state of New York. It was nice to see business owners both on and off the lake band together for a common cause.
The residents of both Saratoga and Fulton counties seemed to arrive at the same conclusion: This lake is a valuable asset to all our residents, including those with permit access and those without. As a lake community, we feel the state was in error not reaching out to us prior to proposing such far- reaching rule changes. After all, we as a community would be impacted the greatest by those said changes.
We also know that this issue will not likely go away, nor should it. We would welcome the state's offer to sit down and draft a set of rules that are good for all of the lake community.
In the meantime, we invite the public to fully enjoy the beauty of this man-made treasure, as we all have in the past. In doing so, please remember to support our local businesses because when they prosper, we all benefit.
