Police: Drugs sold at Amsterdam residence

AMSTERDAM - Two people were arrested Thursday for selling drugs from a private residence in the city, police said.

Police said members of the Amsterdam police, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and state police armed with a search warrant from City Court Judge Howard M. Aison raided the house at 153 Forbes St. and arrested resident Lizette Mercado, 42, and Jeison Mercado-Ramirez, 22, of 66 Bunn St. Police said they were looking to arrest a third individual who was not home at the time.

Police said they set up surveillance on the house and had been watching individuals come and go from the residence at all hours of the day.

Mercado was charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and unlawful possession of marijuana. Mercado-Ramirez was charged with criminal sale of marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Police said they seized approximately $900 in cash and confiscated bags containing heroin, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
