Royal kicks off supercross season

CAROGA LAKE - Fort Plain's Zackery Kollar, Canajoharie's Stephen Matis and Palatine Bridge's Dustin Watson each turned in wins at the 25th season-opening Monster Supercross event at Royal Mountain as 233 riders mounted up Wednesday.
Kollar won the mini 80 9-11 class and was second in the 80 plus 10-16 class. Matis won the quad amateur class, while Watson won the quad amateur class.
Behind Matis, Amsterdam's John Reale was second in quad amateur, while Gloversville's Jesse Dutcher was fifth.
Canajoharie's James Stowell was fifth in the quad expert class behind Watson.
Fonda's Tyler Blowers was third in the 50cc senior stock 7-8 class and St. Johnsville's Burton Wilson was third in the 122-open expert class.
Gloversville's Brandon Handy was fourth in the 50cc senior stock 7-8 class, Fonda's Clayton Blowers was fourth in the plus-30 expert class, Gloversville's Joshua Wilson was fourth in the 122-open expert class and Caroga Lake's Travis Mulyca was fourth in the 122-250cc novice class.
Northville's Daniel Ashcroft was fifth in the 85cc 12-15 class.
Other winners include Edmeston's Tyrick Wheeler (50cc junior stock 4-6), Newport's Jacob Smith (50cc senior stock 7-8), Corinth's Chad D. Burnham (85cc 12-15), Whitesboro's Mitch Dougherty (122-250cc expert), Schuylerville's Rich Winchell (plus-30 expert), Ballston Lake's Mike Barnum (plus-30 amateur), Jacob Beaudoin of Lanesboro, Mass. (mini 60), South Cairo's Cody Veverka (122-open amateur, 122-250cc amateur), Corinth's Luke Petteys (quad novice), Schenectady's Brandon Sisson (122-250cc novice), Little Falls' Cole Fredericks (80 plus 10-16), Montgomery's Jay Weller (122-open expert) and Selkirk's Jake Constantine (122-open novice).
