H.S. Baseball Roundup: Queensbury shuts out Broadalbin-Perth
By The Leader-HeraldQUEENSBURY - Queensbury is assured of at least a share of the Foothills Council regular-season championship with a 3-0 win over Broadalbin-Perth Wednesday.
The Spartans are two games ahead of Glens Falls and need to win once next week against Hudson Falls to take the title outright.
Walks and hit batsmen gave Queensbury (13-3 overall, 11-1 Foothills Council) 10 free bases.
Broadalbin-Perth (9-9 overall, 6-6 Foothills Council) got a triple from Joe Rogers.
B-P will travel to Cooperstown today to face Warrensburg in a non-league contest

ST. JOHNSVILLE - A nine-run second inning helped lift St. Johnsville to the win.
Bernie Bennett had four hits, including two doubles, and drove in four runs for the Saints (6-11 overall, 6-9 WAC).
Scott Jaikin had two hits and an RBI for the Saints.
Northville (5-11 overall, 2-10 WAC) got four hits, including a double, and two RBIs from Matt Blowers. Scott Parker had two hits and an RBI for the Falcons.

SCHENECTADY - Evan Yacowenia's three-run home run in the fifth inning gave Fort Plain the lead for good.
Dan Wiecek allowed just four hits and struck out 13 Schenectady Christian batters. Bo Baker had two hits for the Hilltoppers (13-2 overall, 12-2 WAC).

CANAJOHARIE - Matt Ehrenreich drove in three runs on his 5-for-5 day, scoring twice for Canajoharie. The Cougars scored 10 times in the fifth inning.
Zach Fleischer drove in four RBIs on a 2-for-4 day for Canajoharie (11-4 overall, 10-4 WAC), scoring three runs.
Lucas McLaughlin was 4-for-5 with a double and three runs, while Payton Stahler was 3-for-5 with three doubles for Canajoharie, two RBIs and two runs. Zach Weaver was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Anthony Taylor struck out seven and walked just one in five innings of work.
Canajoharie is schedule to host Mayfield today at 4:30 p.m.

AMSTERDAM - A three-run sixth gave Amsterdam the lead and the Rams held on for the win.
Sean Whitty had two hits, including a double, for the Rams (12-6 overall, 9-4 Big 10). Whitty also threw a complete game, striking out six and walking just one.
During Kurt Kowalczyk's at-bat in the sixth, Steve Gardner scored on a botched rundown play.
Then Kowalzcyk's RBI bunt single drove in Jose Ramirez and gave Amsterdam the lead.
Amsterdam travels to Albany to face Bishop Maginn Friday.
