H.S. Baseball Roundup: Mayfield falls short against BKW

MAYFIELD - With a one-run lead entering the seventh inning, Berne-Knox-Westerlo posted seven insurance runs in the final frame.

BKW (5-8 overall, 4-7 WAC) pitcher Brett Flansburg allowed just three hits and had no errors committed behind him. Korey Mann doubled and drove in two runs for the Bulldogs.

Mayfield's Mike Rose tossed six innings of one-run ball. D.J. Hoagboon had two hits, including a double. Mayfield moved to 6-9 overall and 5-5 in the WAC.

St. Johnsville 5, Canajoharie 2

CANAJOHARIE - Canajoharie managed just three hits and two runs against St. Johnsville starter Rob Jaikin.

Jaxson Smith had an RBI single for St. Johnsville (4-11 overall, 4-9 WAC).

Dylan Slater had an RBI single for Canajoharie (7-4 overall, 6-4 WAC).

Galway 12, Northville 8

NORTHVILLE - Four runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth helped Galway pull away from Northville.

Mike Smith was 4-for-5 for Galway and pitched the complete game for the win. Andrew Sutton was 3-for-3.

For Northville (4-10 overall, 1-9 WAC), both Matt Blowers and Zach Bedell were 4-for-4 at the plate.

Amsterdam 8, Bishop Gibbons 2

SCHENECTADY - After allowing two first-inning runs, Amsterdam starter Kurt Kowalczyk settled in and shut down the Bishop Gibbons batters, striking out six in the game.

Kowalczyk also had two hits for the Rams (9-5 overall). Steve Dygon was 2-for-3 with a double, while Jose Ramirez was 2-for-4 and scored two runs.

The Rams scored five runs in the fourth inning to pull away.

Bishop Gibbons got two doubles from Bob McLoughlin and a triple from Charlie Broussard.
