Campus Clippings: Barone earns national honors

Kris Barone (Gloversville) recently was named an NJCAA Division III Player of the Week after he kept the Finger Lakes bats in check as he allowed two runs six innings. In the second game, he had a base hit that drove in the deciding run in a 14-13 victory.

Ron Patterson (Gloversville) tripled, helping the Herkimer County Community College baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over Mohawk Valley Community College. Patterson also doubled in the Generals' sweep over Adirondack as they ran their win streak to 15.

Garrett Duross (Johnstown) doubled and drove in two runs in the first game of a doubleheader split with Siena College for the St. Peter's baseball team.

The Peacocks won the first game 13-6 before losing the second 16-9.

Duross had two hits, including a three-run home run, four RBIs and two runs scored in the second game.

Duross also had two hits in a 9-8 win over Fairfield and is hitting .299 on the season, good for second on the team. He has seven doubles, one triple, four home runs and 20 RBIs. He has appeared in 29 games and started 28.

John Moore (Fonda-Fultonville) finished ninth in the 1,500-meter run for the University at Albany men's track and field team at St. John's.

Brian Yurkewecz (Fonda-Fultonville) finished 19th in the 5,000-meter run with at time of 14:44.20 at the Larry Ellis Invitational.

Meghan Power (Amsterdam) had a triple in the Mohawk Valley Community College's doubleheader sweep of Jefferson County Community College.

The Hawks won the first game 5-4.

Kevin Hunt (Johnstown) scored a goal and had two assists during the St. Michael's College men's lacrosse team's 15-8 win over Franklin Pierce April 14.

Hunt has three goals and six assists so far this season.

Megan Papierniak (Fonda-Fultonville) had two hits in the second game of the St. Peter's softball team's doubleheader loss to Marist.

She also hit a game-winning RBI double in the seventh inning to lead the Peahens to a 2-1 win at Wagner.

Papierniak is third on the team with a .264 batting average. She has five doubles, a home run and seven RBIs. She has started all 24 games.

Kyle Hill (Oppenheim-Ephratah) allowed two runs in 3 innings of relief to earn the win for the Cazenovia College baseball team in a 7-5 comeback win over Medaille.

It started a doubleheader sweep, which saw the Wildcats extend their winning streak to seven straight games.

Hill is 1-0 on the season.
