Campus Clippings: Moore helps UAlbany to title

John Moore (Fonda-Fultonville) finished second in the 1,000-meter run helping the University at Albany men's indoor track team to its fourth consecutive America East championship Saturday.

He finished with a time of 2:25.10.

Moore also was on the Great Dane's second-place 3,200-meter relay team, which had a time of 7:37.57.

Brian Yurkewecz (Fonda-Fultonville) finished ninth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:34.57.

Schuyler Duross (Johnstown) won the heptathlon at the Region III NJCAA indoor track and field championships Feb. 13 and 14.

He earned 4,132 points, which set a new Alfred State record and qualified him for the national meet in Texas next month.

Jovanna Failing (Fort Plain) finished fifth on the one-meter diving board, helping the State University of New York at Oswego women's swimming and diving team to a second-place finish at the SUNY Athletic Conference championships.

Failing finished with 375.45 points.

She also was fifth in the three-meter event with 383.50 points.

Garrett Duross (Johnstown) had a hit and a run scored in the St. Peter's baseball team's 5-2 win over Tennessee Tech Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader.

The Peacocks lost the first game.

He also was named to the inaugural Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll and Dean's list.

Katie Caddell (Amsterdam) scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds in her final game for the Hartwick women's basketball team in its 67-53 loss to Stevens Tech.

Caddell also hit two 3-pointers in the game.

Hartwick finished with a 12-13 overall record and a 7-9 mark in the Empire 8, which was the Hawks' most conference wins in four years.

Caddell finished her senior season with 183 points, 86 rebounds, 36 points and 20 steals.

Kevin Kucel (Gloversville) had 11 assists in his final regular-season home game in the Herkimer County Community College men's basketball team's 79-53 win to close out the regular season.

Kucel had 14 points and eight assists helping the Generals to a 68-52 win over Fulton-Montgomery Community College.

Kristin Mraz (Johnstown) scored eight points, grabbed three rebounds, dished out an assist and grabbed two steals in the Bryant University women's basketball team's 59-53 win over Farleigh Dickinson Saturday.

Brittany Stahura (Amsterdam) had six points and one rebound.

Dino Johnson (Amsterdam) came off the bench to score 15 points for the Mount St. Vincent men's basketball team in a 107-81 loss to Farmingdale State.

The Dolphins will head to SUNY Maritime to open up the Skyline Conference Tournament.
