Pedestrians struck in two accidents

February 18, 2009
Staff reports

GLOVERSVILLE - A car struck a child on South Judson Street in Gloversville Tuesday afternoon after he fell from a snowbank or slipped on some ice, city police said.

The boy, who was conscious and speaking when he was taken from the scene, collided with the car and suffered injuries that appeared not to be life threatening, police said.

The driver of the vehicle had not been ticketed, but police said the investigation into the accident was not complete this morning. The victim had not yet been able to give his account of the event.

In a separate accident Tuesday in Johnstown, police said pedestrian Barbara Streeter-Thompson, 74, of 206 W. 4th Ave., was badly injured when she was struck by a tractor-trailer around 3:15 p.m. at Market and Main streets.

Police Chief Gregory Horning said today the woman was struck by a JRJ Trucking rig operated by George C. McNeil, 45, of Lexington, N.C.

Horning said Streeter-Thompson suffered severe bleeding in her legs and was in shock, and she was airlifted from the Johnstown Eagles Aerie parking lot to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition Tuesday night. An Albany Med spokeswoman said she was no longer a patient this morning.
