Campus Clippings: Moore, UAlbany record victory

John Moore (Fonda-Fultonville) won the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:26.43 helping the University at Albany men's indoor track team to a win at the Great Dane Classic Friday.

His time set a new school record and qualified him for the IC4A championships. The last record was held by assistant coach Gered Burns, a former All-American in the 800-meter run.

Brian Yurkewecz (Fonda-Fultonville) was fourth in the seeded 5,000-meter run in 15:00.17.

Kevin Kucel (Gloversville) set a career high with 37 points when he helped the Herkimer County Community College men's basketball team streak to a 103-82 win over Schenectady County Community College. He had 25 points in the first half and grabbed six rebounds and had five assists.

Kucel also scored 12 points as he helped the Generals to a 70-42 win over the Elmira College junior varsity team Thursday.

Previously, he scored 20 points and dished out seven assists in a Jan. 18 victory over Clinton Community College. He also had 21 points and eight assists Jan. 17 in an 81-62 win over North Country Community College.

John Blatchford (Amsterdam) placed sixth in the men's 200-yard butterfly for the Binghamton University men's swimming and diving team with a time of 2:03.09, which helped the Bearcats to their third straight win, a 158-136 win over Colgate.

He also finished sixth in the 100-yard freestyle in 51.88 seconds. Blatchford was part of the fifth-place 400-yard freestyle relay team

The women's team lost the meet, but Jordyn Kline (Amsterdam) was fourth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:54.85. She also took seventh in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:08.31.

Katie Caddell (Amsterdam) scored nine points, hit two 3-pointers as the Hartwick women's basketball team topped the Rochester Institute of Technology 60-33 Sunday.

Krystle Crouse (Canajoharie) scored four points in the game.

Caddell is averaging 7.8 points and Crouse averages 4.1.

Dino Johnson (Amsterdam) tied for the game high with 19 points, helping the Mount Saint Vincent College men's basketball team to a 77-57 win over Maritime Sunday.

Three days earlier, Johnson scored 15 in a win over the State University of New York at Old Westbury.

Johnson has appeared in 15 games for the Dolphins and averages 12.7 points per game.

Bela Vonnak (Canajoharie) scored 12 points leading the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 78-72 win over Vassar College Saturday.

He also grabbed four rebounds.

The previous day, he scored seven points and grabbed nine rebounds in a 78-72 loss to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Vonnak, a senior co-captain, has started 14 of 15 games and averages 12.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. His 183 total points are third best on the team and 100 rebounds are good for second.
