Sandor Burkus
Sandor Burkus, 78, of Gloversville died unexpectedly on December 28 at home.
Born on September 10, 1930, in Ormosbanya, Hungary. Sandor moved to the United States in 1956, and became a United States citizen. He was honored to become a citizen of this great country. He never forgot his roots and shared many stories with his grandchildren, but always instilled in them a love for America, and hard work. Sandor retired after 30 years of service from Avco in Portsmouth, NH. His greatest joy was his love and devotion to his 4 granddaughters. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church.
Sandor is survived by his granddaughters, Jessica of Rock Tavern, NY, Nichole, Violet and Sarah, his daughter and son-in-law, Margo and Greg Maklae, his son, Alexander, and his ex-wife, Margit Burkus, all of Gloversville. Also, his sister, Julia Shmet of Hungary; and his special friends, James, Dianne and Nick Grasso, all of Rock Tavern. It was Sandor's request that there be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Gloversville. Interment will take place in the spring at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an educational trust fund for Jessica, Nichole, Violet and Sarah, made payable to James Grasso, 8 Wayland Way, Rock Tavern, NY 12575.
