Mrs. Luise Enderle, called Lies or Liesel by her family or friends, Oma Lies by her grandchildren and great-grandchild, age 94, died at the Mountain Valley Hospice on December 12, 2008. She formerly resided on Oakland Avenue, Green Road, and most recently The Getman Memorial Home. She was born on February 22, 1914, in Weingarten/Baden, Germany, the daughter of the late Herman and Lina (Geggus) Gakenheimer. She was educated in schools in Weingarten. As an elementary school child, Luise told her teacher she was going to America. That dream came true after her marriage on May 31, 1937 to Julius Enderle, also of Weingarten. The world was going through a depression and the only work available was in America. The plan was to stay in the USA two or three years but by 1945, Luise and her husband realized both their families needed help, so they helped their families with food, clothing and re-building their homes by sending care packages and money. Luise excelled at helping others in need. She first worked as a domestic to learn the English language, next as a loopier in a knitting mill in Ridgewood, New York. She then took a job with Trans World Airlines at JFK Airport. Working for an airline allowed Luise to visit family in Germany every year for a month. Luise retired from TWA after 20 years, and spent two to three months with her family in Germany thereafter. Lusie's daughter, as well as two grandchildren and family back in Germany meant everything to Luise. She took care of her lawn on Oakland Avenue until she was 88 years old. Always a meticulous housekeeper, Luise also loved to bake plum tarts, apple cake and cook rouladen, spaezlen and lasagna for her family. She knitted socks for her son-in-law and grandchildren until she was 91 years old. Survivors include one daughter, Sieglinde Dugan (Edward P.); granddaughter, Heide-Kris Spoor (Jeffery) of Salt Lake City, Utah; and grandson, Danaiel Warschawski (Vera) of Weinheim/Baden, Germany; great-grandson, Daniel Jeffery Spoor; and great-granddaughter, Lydia Luise Warschawski; sisters, Lina Meier and Mathilde Kaercher of Weingarten/Baden, Germany; nieces and nephews. Luise will be making her final journey back to her beloved Weingarten, Germany. She will be cremated and her remains will be placed in the cemetery overlooking her hometown.
