Campus Clippings: Curtis competes for HCCC

Jordan Curtis (Johnstown) was a freshman goalkeeper on the Herkimer County Community College men's soccer team during the Fall 2008 season.

The Generals won the NJCAA Division III national championship with a 2-1 win over Triton College.

It was the seventh national title for the Generals and the fourth under coach Pepe Aragorn.

Katie Caddell (Amsterdam) scored 11 points and was named to the all-tournament team helping the Hartwick women's basketball team to a 72-53 win over Johnson State College giving the Hawks the Blazer Tip-Off Tournament championship at Elms College.

Caddell led the Hawks with 12 points in the tournament opener as Hartwick downed Massachusetts College of the Liberal Arts 79-66.

Olivia McMullen (Broadalbin-Perth) scored two points in the game.

She scored 12 points in her first collegiate game as she helped MCLA to an 86-52 win over St. Joseph's College.

Megan Gaugler (Amsterdam) scored 15 points in two games for the Skidmore College women's basketball team as the Thoroughbreds finished second in the 31st Annual Skidmore Women's Basketball Invitational Tournament.

Gaugler posted six points on two 3-pointers in the championship game, a 77-62 loss to the State University of New York at Cortland and nine points, including two 3s, in the Thoroughbreds' 78-56 win over Western New England College in the tournament opener.

She started her first collegiate game in Skidmore's season opener, a 55-50 loss to Williams and scored 10 points. She drained two 3-pointers in the game.

Matt Begeal (Wells) was named to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference all-sportsmanship team for the Fall 2008 season.

Begeal finished the men's soccer season with one goal and three assists for five points as the Hawks posted a 5-12-0 overall record an a 2-7-0 mark in the conference.

Nicole Hallenback (Fonda) won the novice equitation over fences class for the Morrisville State equestrian team, which finished third at the English Riding Arena Sunday.

Dino Johnson (Amsterdam) led the Mt. St. Vincent men's basketball team with 24 points in the Dolphins' 107-93 loss to Hamilton College in the first round of the Hamilton Tip-Off Tournament.

Johnson scored nine points in Mt. St. Vincent's consolation-game victory over Wells College, which gave the Dolphins third place in the tournament.

Bela Vonnak (Canajoharie) scored 11 points helping the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team to a 99-85 win over Southern Vermont College Saturday.

He also grabbed nine rebounds in the game.

Vonnak opened the season with a six-point performance in the Saints' 82-76 loss to Ursinus.

Kristin Mraz (Johnstown) scored seven points and dished out an assist and grabbed a steal as the Bryant College women's basketball team fell 68-61 to Binghamton.
