Marie Ann Fischer
Marie Ann Fischer of Johnstown went to be with Jesus on Friday, October 24, 2008, at the Fulton County Infirmary, where she had been a resident for several months.
Born June 25, 1927, in Northern N.J., she attended school in N.J., and Marie married her high school sweetheart, the late George H. Fischer, and they were married for 57 years. George passed in 2002.
George and Marie moved to the Glen area in 1969 with their children, Susan and Wayne, to give farming a "go."
They later moved to Johnstown while George managed the Pyramid Mall, Johnstown, and Marie decorated their comfortable home.
They both ran "The Hotdog Stand" at the mall.
Marie was the beloved mother of Susan (Richard) Pierce of St. Louis, MO, and Wayne (Laurie) Fischer of Fultonville, NY. She was Grandma to Matthew Pierce of St. Louis, MO, Amy Pierce of New York and Nick Fischer of Fultonville. Marie is also survived by her brother, Donald (John) Albanese of Lakewood, N.J., her sister, Evelyn France of Toms River, N.J., as well as numerous nieces and nephews and her close friend, Marge Davidson of Johnstown. She was predeceased by a sister, Loretta Rossler.
Her many close friends and family will certainly miss her optimistic attitude and love of the Lord. With artistic ability and creative flair, Marie painted, sculpted, designed stained-glass pieces, even stitched Quaker quilts, and was an able partner to her equally gifted husband, who handmade and sold Adirondack chairs and home items.
Mom and Dad, we will be looking for the pennies.
There will be no visitation as Marie has generously donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Program at Albany Medical School & Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in the spring. She will be interred with her beloved husband at Saratoga National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions may be made in her name to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078, or The BackStoppers Inc., 10411 Clayton Road, Suite A5 (Le Chateau Village), Frontenac, MO 63131 (an organization for firefighters/EMTs and law enforcement in Missouri and Illinois) as Marie's beloved husband, George, was a volunteer fireman in N.J.
