BROADALBIN - Scotia-Glenville scored two goals in the first nine minutes of Saturday's Foothills Council game and the Broadalbin-Perth Lady Patriots had no answer for them in a 3-0 loss in their league finale.

"I thought we had some good spurts where we played some nice soccer and there were some where we didn't, but I'm happy overall," Scotia-Glenville coach Lise Williams said.

The Tartans got on the board in the game's seventh minute when Amanda Sweeney took a pass in the penalty box from Caitlin Hoey and blasted it by Broadalbin-Perth goalkeeper Avery Light for a 1-0 Scotia-Glenville lead.

The Tartans added another two minutes later when Hoey tucked a shot into the top-right corner of the goal, doubling the lead.

"We've been working offensively on making good decisions and getting the ball in the box deeper instead of shooting from farther out," Williams said. "They made some nice passes right across the box to find the right open person to take the shot."

That was two more goals than the Tartans and Lady Patriots combined for in their last meeting as the two teams battled to a 0-0 tie in Scotia on Sept. 25.

"I told them not to look at that," Broadalbin-Perth coach Harrie Washburn said. "We kind of lucked out there and they had some point-blank shots and tonight they finished on them. We allowed less shots in this game that were quality shots than in the other game."

They still allowed a lot of shots as the Tartans (12-1-3 overall, 11-0-2 Foothills Council) outshot the Lady Patriots 27-5 and Broadalbin-Perth coach Avery Light made eight saves.

Scotia-Glenville keeper Kylah Rodd only had to make a play on three shots that were sent in her direction, and very few of those five were hard shots at the net.

"I have a strong defense," Williams said. "They're kind of young. They're all, pretty much, going to be back next year with one senior. They all played really well and they have a good amount of speed so if they make a mistake, they can get up and chase somebody down."

After Hoey's goal, the Tartans didn't make another strong bid to score until 45 seconds remained in the first half when Light saved Alyssa Woodworth's shot. The ball, however, bounced off Light and Sweeney collected the rebound, but her shot went over the crossbar.

"[The game] settled into a lull so we talked to them at halftime about trying to get them to pick back up the pace because you just don't want to sit on two goals and watch the game go by," Williams said. "That's not exciting."

The Tartans pressed Light into action just 16 seconds into the second half when Sweeney took the ball down the field, but Light made a diving stop moving to her right to come up with the save.

The Tartans finally converted in the 76th minute when Hoey sent a corner kick in from the right side and Macee Maddock took the ball at the right post and tucked it inside the far post giving Scotia-Glenville a 3-0 lead.

"We had a couple of good chances there at the end that each of my midfielders were very frustrated with that they missed," Williams said. "One came straight down the middle and another came across and was one-on-one with the goalie and she missed it too. They were frustrated with that, but a least they were in the right spot."

The Lady Patriots (3-10-3 overall, 3-8-3 Foothills Council) will finish their regular season Monday with a non-league game against Stillwater before waiting for their sectional seed, which will be released Tuesday.

"Our girls played very hard and they're a good team, a physical team," Washburn said. "We got beat up because they're a very physical and strong team and that's one of the things we need to work on."
