Man pleads guilty, faces prison time

POSTED: September 6, 2008

FONDA - A St. Johnsville man is facing up to 10 years in prison and 10 years of post-release supervision after pleading guilty to sexual abuse.

On Tuesday, Raymond I. Sanders, 38, of 7044 Route 5, pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual act on a person younger than 13 in a case steaming from a December 2007 incident.

Sanders allegedly engaged in sexual acts with an 11-year-old girl at least twice. A two-month investigation by the Montgomery County Child Protective Services Agency, Harry Hoag Elementary and Sheriff's Office showed a pattern of sexual abuse of the girl appearing to go back to when she was 9 years old.

Councilors at the school had received a statement from the victim and turned it over to the CPS.

Sanders is expected to be sentenced Nov. 7.

In unrelated cases heard on Tuesday:

Elizabeth A. Thomas, 28, of 247 Locust Ave., was sentenced to two to four years in state prison on Tuesday. She pleaded guilty in May to taking another person's purse with cash and credit cards from the counter at Aldi's in Amsterdam in February.

Robert L. Guilbault, 63, of 937 County Highway 10, Corinth, was sentenced to five days in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, five years of probation and a $2,000 fine for felony driving while intoxicated.

Guilbault pleaded guilty in June to driving while intoxicated stemming from a Jan. 13 incident in the village of Fultonville.

Christopher D. Dacorsi, 32, pleaded guilty to third-degree bail jumping in connection with a 2007 incident in the town of Mohawk. Dacorsi was out on bail for another charge and didn't show up for court.

Sentencing has been adjourned until Oct. 22 and he is expected to get one year in county jail.

Jamie Gauthier, 41, of 296 Locust Ave., pleaded guilty to felony driving while intoxicated. He faces two to five years of probation, drug court and a $3,000 fine at sentencing in March.

On Wednesday, Floyd J. Krawczyk, 33, of 43 Van Dyke Ave. pleaded guilty to fourth-degree grand larceny for taking a purse containing cash and credit cards that was left on a table at a Dunkin' Donuts in Amsterdam.

Krawczyk is expected to get four months of weekend jail and five years of probation when he is sentenced Nov. 7.

LOL you don't bother me you snark you.

A child's innocence should be protected at all cost even if it means one strike an the offender is in prison for life. A child is so much more precious than some careless woman who leaves her purse out in the open just inviting thefts.

we know the article most likely meant the second, but the spelling is still correct. (im being snarky... again)

areyouthinking and teebzz are both right...personally I would have used the 2nd one in this story.

1.) coun·cil·or also coun·cil·lor(koun's?-l?r, -sl?r) n. A member of a council, as one convened to advise a governor. or 2.) coun·se·lor[koun-suh-ler]–noun 1. a person who counsels; adviser.

I know it is now against Leader Herald Publisher Policy (see Publisher's Blog) and name calling in general is bad and could lead to not allowing comments on anything but I just need to say it. Ray Sanders is a loser.

why did she get 2-4 years in state prison for stealing a purse, but he only got 4 months of weekends in county jail?

This guy gets 10 years for raping a 9 year old, that Crissalli woman throws a beer can at a guy on a motorcycle and causes him to crash and die. Why are these people allowed to live. They both deserve life w/ no parole.

I don't understand why purse snatching gets more jail time than drunk driving. If you get you purse stolen it can cause a lot of problems, but it won't kill you and/or someone else.

well they lay them down and walk away forgetting them...if you find a purse and don't turn it in...well these convictions say it all.
