Mary Clare Aquilla

Mary Clare Aquilla, 83, 180 Briggs Street Ext., Johnstown, NY, passed away peacefully September 4, 2008 at Mountain Valley Hospice.

Born in Dundalk, Ireland, June 15, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rose Martin.

Mary worked as a dress maker before coming to the U.S. as a WW II war bride marrying the late Richard R. Aquilla and settling in Gloversville, NY, where she worked for several years in area glove factories as a finger knitter and later employed at Key Bank.

She was involved with various charitable activities and past member of the VFW woman's auxiliary. She was also active in senior citizen events and a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church.

She enjoyed gardening, dancing, Irish music and was appreciated by many for her fun loving manner

She was predeceased by two sisters, Shelia Martin and Virginia Woods. Survived by two daughters, Rose James and June Aquilla; sisters, Poppy Hallam and Yolanda Ekstrom; and two brothers, John and Dan Martin; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church with the Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will take place in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078. Arrangements are by the Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville.
