Alleged killer no stranger to police

By RODNEY MINOR, The Leader-Herald
POSTED: August 27, 2008

GLOVERSVILLE - City police said the man accused of murder on the FJ & G Rail Trail earlier this month has been arrested nine times since 2001.

Police Capt. Jim Lorenzoni said 26-year-old city resident Randy L. Green was arrested on a number of charges in that eight-year span - disorderly conduct (three times), second-degree assault, criminal mischief, second-degree harassment and violating parole.

Green was arrested Aug. 15 and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Raymond W. Pike, 63.

Police found Pike's body earlier in the day on the Rail Trail near Foster Street, dead from multiple stab wounds.

Lorenzoni said this morning the autopsy on Pike's body lists the manner of death as a homicide. The autopsy concluded the immediate cause of death was severe hemorrhaging due to perforations of the heart, lungs and kidneys from multiple stab wounds, he said.

The results of the toxicology tests have not arrived at the Police Department, Lorenzoni said.

Police said Pike and Green had been drinking and arguing before they ventured onto the Rail Trail from Pike's Bleecker Street apartment, headed toward Price Chopper on North Main Street.

While walking on the trail, the two began arguing again.

Lorenzoni said the motive for the murder still is under investigation.

Police said Green, after implicating his involvement in Pike's death, claimed part of the argument was over an alleged stash of child pornography Pike had.

Pike, a registered sex offender, was arrested by Johnstown Police in 1990 and later convicted of second-degree sodomy. He was sentenced to serve two to six years in state prison for the crime, which involved a 13-year-old male victim.

While police have seized materials from Pike's apartment to verify or refute Green's claim, Lorenzoni said police at this time have not determined if the material is child pornography.

Pike also had his run-ins with city police since 2001, being arrested four times. Pike was charged with petit larceny, trespassing, and was arrested twice for failing to notify police when he changed his address, Lorenzoni said.

Lorenzoni said the criminal records Green and Pike have is not uncommon compared to other people the police deal with.

"It is not out of the norm for us," he said.

Fulton County District Attorney Louise Sira said while Pike and Green knew each other, the full-extent of their relationship has not been determined. Sira said investigators do not believe the two had been friends for a long period of time.

Lorenzoni said police do not know how long the two had been friends, but it was not a life-long friendship.

Green was just merely preparing to become a distinguished martyr!

May we have a moment of silence for Mr. Green. Furthermore, has anyone established a trust fund in Green's name for other honorable citizen/vigilante crusaders that may suffer governmental prosecution? I propose an immediate fund drive on the rail trail! OUTSTANDING!!!!

I'll bet Pike was dissappointed he couldn't marry his boyfriend when it becomes legal in NYS and adopt some boys from a third world foreign country. Probably his number one PERV fantasy.

Well RAG, I'm sure that if it was you or your child that was sodomized by him, I think that you would think differently.

mickey1 you also said they both deserve what they got. Not sure, but although Pike is certainly a threat to society and certainly not to be trusted around children, don't know if he deserved to die by being stabbed multiple times. If he deserved to die for a crime, it should be handled by courts, judge and jury not by self imposed judge and juries. Our system of justice is certainly not perfect, but it IS the best in the world. Don't believe it, go into the world. And he certianly didn't deserve to die because of an arguement. You want that kind of justice, go back in time and live in Texas or back to the 1740's when you were branded on the forehead for adultry. I doubt you would last.

Loyalsocialist, there are a few of us that actually sweep up those broken bottles and that section between 67 and 29 (by Clydes) is a nightmare of broken beer and wine bottles. Glovesville is bad by the bars on fulton street and by price chopper... over all the path is decent if the clowns would walk, stand or ride to one side. Have to give credit to GPD in making a quick arrest as Albany and Schenectady have plenty of unsolved cases.

I agree with Rizzi (3:50). The part about 1990 is irrelevant unless evidence shows that at midnight on the way to Price Chopper Pike began an act of child molestation, which Green attempted to thwart through his violent action.

(Insert in all Pike stories)

This is a simple case. The victim had a mental illness that should have landed him in prison for life and he'd be alive today but the down side is that an innocent person may then have become a victim. Green is just another low life piece of trash in Gloversville. The justice system is also to blame here. Victim should never have been out of prison as molestation is just as bad as murder, Green's criminal history was evident of a murder down the road so this is just another crime case of 2 gloversville low lifes getting what they had coming to them although it wasn't up to green to end the guys life, our system should have done so years ago. Im also sure the system will allow green to be a free man again someday...

What difference does it make to the case whatever perverted paraphenalia Pike possessed? Sex toys,******, rubber novelties, magazines, DVD's, blow up dolls, kids clothing...ect. Doesn't matter to the case.

What matters is Green stabbing Pike with a knife, in front of a witness, and Pike being killed by the assault.

Since this has something to do with the Rail Trail... I rode on the it yesterday and realized that there is a SIGNIFICANT difference between J-town and G'Ville, in who is using the trail. Johnstown -Families and people using it for exercise and fun. Gloversville - People just hanging out. I dodged at least 10 people that were just standing in the middle of the trail. I refuse to go back through Gloversville anymore after that last ride. Something needs to be done about the lighting and conditions on the trail in G'ville or more and more attacks will come. I also counted 8 broken bottles on the trail compared to the 1 that was in J-town. It just shows you where the officials in Gloversville's heads are.

Why is it a surprise to everyone to learn about Green criminal past?!? Mobody listens to me! I reported what he was arrested for the last article that ran. Anyone can find out. Go to the website for the NYS Dept of Criminal Justice Service, select inmate lookup, and type in a name. Same thing with sex offender registry. Might shock you to see who you find. Some people have called me a know it all here. I just do my research. It is all available people.

Maybe the police are not identifying the content of exactly what they found in Pikes apt because if they di it could have some sort of detrimental effect on their case. We have all seen what happends when you release too much detail regarding the specifics of evidence. Doesn't anyone watch Law and Order?!?

Pike dtr if you loved your father so much, why did you have nothing to do with him??? Embrassed that is okay i would not have anything to do with him either. Not to be mean, he even looked like a perv.
