Child porn claim tied to slaying
By RODNEY MINOR, The Leader-HeraldGLOVERSVILLE - The argument that ended in the death of Raymond W. Pike involved the alleged killer's suspicion the registered sex offender had child pornography, city police said.
Police Capt. Jim Lorenzoni said the man charged with murdering Pike, Randy L. Green, told investigators after his arrest that part of their argument was he suspected Pike had a stash of child pornography.
Green, 26, of Wilson Street, was arrested by police Friday and charged with second-degree murder after Pike's body, with multiple stab wounds, was discovered earlier in the day on the FJ & G Rail Trail between Eighth and 10th avenues.
Green subsequently pleaded innocent in City Court.
Lorenzoni said Green implicated his own involvement in the crime after being arrested. At this time, police expect to make no more arrests in the case, he said.
Police searched Pike's Bleecker Street apartment and seized materials that authorities will examine to verify or refute Green's claim, Lorenzoni said.
Police cannot confirm or deny the material is child pornography at this time, he said.
Robert Abdella, Green's attorney, said Pike's history will be an issue in his client's case.
"I do not believe [Pike's criminal past] to be as remote as some have stated," he said.
Pike was arrested by Johnstown police in 1990 and later convicted of second-degree sodomy. He was sentenced to two to six years in state prison.
Green has a criminal history as well.
In 2004, Green pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted assault and was sentenced to two to four years in state prison. Green stabbed a man during a street fight the year before.
Lorenzoni said Pike's killing occurred after some heavy drinking in Pike's apartment Thursday night. Pike, Green and an unidentified third person were in the apartment. Police are not revealing the third person's identity for security reasons, Lorenzoni said.
An argument started in the apartment, resulting in Green
hitting Pike with a board, Lorenzoni said.
Pike apparently was not seriously injured by the blow because the three decided to walk on the Rail Trail to the Price Chopper on North Main Street.
Lorenzoni said while walking on the trail, Green and Pike began arguing again, which police said ended with Green stabbing Pike.
Green returned to Pike's apartment, Lorenzoni said, before leaving with the unidentified third person in a taxi for a campsite at Vandenburgh Point on the Great Sacandaga Lake in Mayfield.
Lorenzoni said Green made a fire at the campsite and tried to burn his clothing and the knife used in the killing.
Green was unsuccessful in his alleged attempt to burn the knife because police were able to recover it. Lorenzoni described it as a hunting-style knife with a 4- to 6-inch blade.
Green was back in Gloversville the next morning when police interviewed him on the porch of Pike's apartment. Green must have realized he was not thorough enough in trying to dispose of the evidence, Lorenzoni said, because he rode a bicycle back to Vandenburgh Point to recover the murder weapon.
By that time, police had already received information about the fire and were at the scene when Green appeared, Lorenzoni said.
Green is being held in the Fulton County Jail without bail.

hi again every1!i wanted 2 clear up that mr green was arrested for 2nd degree assault,he was jumped by 4 brothers and stabbed 1,and yes its the same mr.green that got arrested for robbery also,if any1 knew mr.green you would know he was a good kind hearted person with a bad temper when set off,i dont believe mr green killed pike cause he just wanted 2 or cause they were lovers of some sort i believe cause he was set off,it dont give him the right 2 play god but mentally mr green wasent all the way there,but did know right from wrong,he wasent a monster!just a kid with a ruff life and a bad temper,iam not here 2 stick up 4 him at all just 2 let u know who he was,he didnt have any kids with his sister!his sister has 1 kid with this guy and 2 with another man these are facts!

i also get a kick outta 'lets make him pay'ya what 25 or so yrs then he gets out and kills again,or make him metally stable and b a good citizen?prison is nothing but a holding stable,mental wards are 2 help the criminally insane,but we all have are own opinion!thanks again!another hobby 2 harness........

i love u so called know it alls!didnt i say i was a parole officer?well yes i did!and iam retired,and no social services didnt get me there they just helped your family!also,its not from me being a bad parole officer its the goverment who lets half these people out again,and just 4 a quick tune in,ny con i paroled under my supervison has not actually reoffened ever again only randy but i wasent his officer the past few yrs,like i said many years ago he should have been helped not pushed away 4awhile,so thank you and have a nice day....i used the vulgar language because i can!i earned my right 2 say what ever i want,it is a free country

lavada - parole officer? Yeah right maybe a parole peer but surely not an officer. If you are then I can see why we have so many on parole that reoffend if they are having the guidance from someone like you. Did you get the job through social services to get you off the services? Because you are not professional and I do not know of any parole officer that would tell someone to go &%^* their self on a public message board. I bet your boss if you actually have one is real proud of you. I bet Green's attorney would love to know you are posting stuff about him!

Randy had his chance at the big time and blew it. If he cut Pikes head clean OFF and rode around with it on the handlebars of his bicycle he could have gone national, even worldwide on the news. He was halfway there. And Gloversville would have been famous as a backwater loserville where depraved murderers kill perverts. It might have even become a buzzword in the presidential election. We could have been contenders.....Oh well, he was always kind of a loser.

Whew! I went back and read "lavada" posts. NO WAY its a parole officer. No way. TG!! See his post "disposable of evidence". I believe it's disposal of evidence and so frequently used in court transcripts and documentation that I believe a parole officer might be familiar with the term. Good grief.

We have: a body, with its throat slashed ear to ear a crime scene a murder weapon a suspect with priors -Mr Green a witness (name unknown) motive is unclear right now but can easily be theorized. That's all we need for the conviction. If any or all were gay, child molesters, drunk, psychotic, had fat whales or trash for family members - it doesn't matter. Green's going back to Attica.
