Robert W. Pilchen

Robert W. Pilchen, 62, of Division Street, Amsterdam, died Monday morning, August 11, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital .

He was born in Amsterdam on August 15, 1945, a son of Robert and Audrey Phoenix Pilchen and was a 1963 graduate of Mayfield Central School. Mr. Pilchen was a lifelong area resident.

He was employed as a crane operator with General Electric Co. in Schenectady for 25 years and retired due to disability in 1994.

Mr. Pilchen was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam era.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, spending time at the Saratoga Harness Track, and was an avid NY Giants fan.

Survivors include a son, Chris (Chrissy) Pilchen; a daughter, Melissa (Richard) Zaleski, all of Fonda; a brother, Michael (Heather) DeRocker of Mayfield; 3 sisters, Carol (Carl) Conklin of Gansevoort, Kimberly DeRocker of Gloversville and Diane Perry of Sharon Springs; 3 grandchildren, Aaron Zaleski and Cheyan and Kayla Pilchen; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Cremation was preformed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 West Main Street, Broadalbin with Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Montgomery County Veterans Service Agency, in care of the funeral home.
