Fort Plain fire under investigation
FORT PLAIN - A fire in town early Friday morning sparked an investigation by the Montgomery County Fire Investigation Team.
Fort Plain Volunteer Fire Department Chief Brian Muehleck said the fire at 1907 Wagners Hollow Road broke out when no one was at home, but the home had been occupied. He said he did not have the names of the residents.
Muehleck said volunteer companies from Canajoharie and St. Johnsville responded to the blaze, which caused extensive damage to the home's living room and kitchen.
Montgomery County Emergency Management Director Gary Nestle said a family was living at the residence, but they were not home at the time.
No injuries were reported from extinguishing the fire.
Nestle said he couldn't give details of the investigation until it was complete, which may take one or two weeks.
