Margaret Buchner Phillips

Margaret Buchner Phillips, 96, of Mosher Road, Amsterdam, NY, passed away Thursday morning at St. Mary's Hospital with her beloved family at her side.

She lived a very full, long and happy life and was deeply loved by four generations of her family.

Born in Amsterdam on February 9, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Jessie Adebahr Buchner. A graduate of Amsterdam High School, she later attended the Amsterdam School of Commerce. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Mohawk Carpets, and lastly by Amsterdam Printing and Litho.

Margaret was an honorary life member of the Broadalbin Chapter 487 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Amsterdam United Methodist Church and its Methodist Women, and the Galway Lake Campers Association, where she spent many happy times together with family and friends. Margaret was known for her adventurous nature and keen sense of humor.

On Oct. 18, 1941, she was united in marriage to Leon A. "Lefty" Phillips. He predeceased her on April 20, 1956. She was also predeceased by her brother, Lewis Buchner; sister, Augusta Slocum; and niece, Patricia L. Buchner.

She leaves her sons, Robert M. (Paula) Phillips of Amsterdam and Donald A. (Diane) Phillips of Fort Johnson; a brother, Malcolm (Gladys) Buchner of Galway; her grandchildren, Robert, Gregory and Cheryl Phillips, and Sharon Harnish; great-grandchildren, Abigail Harnish, Ryan, Nathan and Lauren Phillips, as well as nieces and nephews.

Services are Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, with the Rev. Greg DeSalvatore officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to her beloved United Methodist Church or to Fairview Cemetery, both in care of the funeral home office.
