Broadalbin-Perth welcomes new board member
By KAYLEIGH KARUTIS, The Leader-HeraldBROADALBIN - The Broadalbin-Perth Central School District Board of Education welcomed a new member at its reorganizational meeting Thursday.
Paul Chizek, who won the election in May, signed the oath of office and was greeted by existing board members with a round of applause.
President Sam Jackling also was applauded as he was elected president for another term. Wendy Perry, the current vice-president, was re-elected as well.
The board reappointed district treasurer Jeanne Johnson and district clerk Georgia Baldwin.
In a mass approval, the board unanimously approved 21 separate resolutions that Superintendent Stephen Tomlinson called "essential to the function of the district."
Those resolutions included the appointment of the district's attorney, Girvin & Ferlazzo of Albany, and the approval of several independent educational evaluation rates. Some of those rates included specifying Albany Medical Center Hospital as the location for a neurological evaluation that is not to exceed $500.
Tomlinson said independent evaluations are often not needed during the course of the school year, but it is important to provide for them in case they are needed.
The school board authorized several school staff members to be provided with petty cash, including the district clerk, who will have $50 in petty cash, and the food service office, which will have $200.
The district added George Hanstein, the food service director, to a list of staff members who are to be provided with a cell phone for school business.
The board also approved a 30-cent charge for each page copied in the school, and a $1 charge for each page faxed.
The board designated the official IRS mileage rate as the district's rate for mileage reimbursements.
The school board chose to continue to hold its meetings on the third Monday of each month at 6:45 p.m.
