Mayfield hires new workers

By KAYLEIGH KARUTIS, The Leader-Herald
POSTED: June 27, 2008

MAYFIELD - At an early morning meeting Thursday, the Mayfield Central School District Board of Education approved the hiring of several employees, including a part-time office assistant and a full-time pre-kindergarten teacher.

Members also said goodbye to longtime board President Barrie Hampton, whose term expired this year, after being with the district since 2000.

Theresia Davis was elected in May to fill the open board seat. At the board's July 15 meeting, members will appoint a new president and vice president.

Amanda Stemmler of Broadalbin and Annette Greco of Tribes Hill were approved by the board to work in the elementary school. Laura Luck of Gloversville was approved to work part time as a reading assistant and Eileen Rovito was appointed to the position of athletic director.

Anita Moore was approved to work full time as the school's newest pre-kindergarten teacher, and Ryan Collins was named to the district's pool of substitute teachers.

Jessica Morey, a Mayfield High School student, was hired to work 15 hours per week in the district office at a rate of $7.15 per hour for the summer.

The board also passed a resolution commending Geoffrey Davis, superintendent at the Hamilton-Montgomery-Fulton Board of Cooperative Educational Services, for his role in finding a new superintendent for the Mayfield district.

Former Superintendent Ralph Acquaro retired and Paul Williamsen was chosen to fill the position. Williamsen began working at the district June 1 after leaving his post as the Wells Central School District superintendent.

Board members called Davis' work "outstanding" and resolved to send him and others a letter commending him. Board members also signed another letter, which Hampton said would be framed and presented to Davis.

The board also approved the continuation of a joint girls swimming and diving team, an alpine skiing team and a nordic skiing team with the Gloversville Enlarged School District.
