Caroga Lake teams compete at regionals

CAROGA LAKE — The Caroga Lake Volleyball Club 18-and-younger team had its strongest showing in several years in the 18s Division of the IREVA Regional Championships Saturday and Sunday at the State University of New York at Cortland.
The two-day tourney attracted teams from around the IREVA region, which extends from west of Syracuse to just outside of New York City and north-south from Canada to Pennsylvania.
The Caroga Lake 18s won all 11 sets Saturday and won seven of nine sets Sunday to advance to the finals where they lost to Onondaga in two straight sets to finish second in the Gold Division and second out of 15 teams overall.
The Caroga Lake 18s team included Natasha Mamrosh, Marissa Mowers and Colleen Darby of Dolgeville, Brittany Raykoske of Gloversville, Nicole Stock of Caroga Lake, Alexis Theobald of Amsterdam, Lisa McMillan of Oppenheim- Ephratah and Rebekah Haschytz of Mayfield.
The Caroga 14s finished third out of 20 teams in the 14s Division of the two-day Championships.
The Caroga Lake 17s took third place out of 14 17-and-younger teams in the one-day 17s tourney as they lost to North Country in the tiebreaker set of the semifinals.
The Caroga Lake 14s team included Zara Hyde, Annie Stock and Gabby Hale of Caroga Lake, Lora Allen of Dolgeville, Brynn Hlozanski and Mary Beth DeCuyke of Johnstown, Lauren Weaver of Canajoharie, Emily Martin of Galway, Alison Lysiak of Broadalbin-Perth and Kristen Lansburg of Oppenheim-Ephratah.
The Caroga Lake 17s team included Danielle Nellis, Kelsey Palcovic and Amanda Meredith of Caroga Lake, Brittany Calvello and Lauren Lysiak of Broadalbin-Perth, Juleah Vedder of Dolgeville and Jeana Farruggia of Mt. Markham.
Next up for the 15s, 16s, 17s and 18s will be a May 10 event at Burnt Hills.
