Realization of boyfriend’s age was shocker
My name is LeeAnn Sager. I am in the paper at least once a week. I’m a little tired of people calling me a rapist. I am not. I think everyone needs to know the truth before ideas just start flying.
Back in 2006, I went out for New Year’s with my family to a bar in Gloversville. I was dancing and getting very intoxicated. Later that night, a guy came up to me and started dancing. After a few more hours had gone by, I and this guy left and went to my house.
Yes, we had intercourse that night, which led to us dating, until one day when we went to his family’s house for a picnic. I found out that horrifying day that he was only 15 years old. My life stopped right there, and just crumbled. I had a few hard words with him and left.
Well, two years later, I get arrested for rape in the third degree. I got the best lawyer there was. At first, they wanted me to take three years in prison, but we kept fighting. They came down to six months and my lawyer said to “take it.”
If I took it to the jury, I probably would have been found guilty. That’s a 50-50 chance I wasn’t going to take.
But this is ridiculous. I met him in a bar. They told me I should have asked him for an ID.
Were they joking? Because I’m not laughing. So I took the six months because I have children to think about.
So, I would just like to say to people who are rude out there, I am not a rapist. I’ve never been in trouble in my whole life. Everything that you read is not always true.
