NEW YORK (AP) — A Portuguese water dog called Matisse is making another run at becoming America's pooch.
Matisse was picked as the best of his breed Tuesday at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show. He advances to the working group finals later at night. If he wins, he'll go to the best-of-seven ring for best in show at Madison Square Garden.
The 2½-year-old Matisse made it into the finals last year before Banana Joe the affenpinscher took the title.
The top dog will be picked shortly before 11 p.m.
More than 2,800 dogs were entered at Westminster. A bloodhound, standard poodle and miniature pinscher and a Cardigan Welsh corgi won their groups Monday night and already are in the final ring.
