Mayor to veto city-manager proposal

Council would need 5-vote majority to override

August 9, 2014

GLOVERSVILLE — Mayor Dayton King said Friday he plans to veto the Common Council’s recently-passed local law to allow city voters to decide in November if they want a city-manager form of governmen....

so Jake runs a business, hopefully for you it is not endorsed by the King because those businesses go belly up very quickly.

Thank you. I post with my real name and stand behind what I post. If one prefers to remain anonymous, that is their choice. I just want to add that I think the voters should have a right to decide what kind of government they want and it should be left up to them, not to the council, nor the mayor. I am also against the proposal to hold city wide elections for Wards. Contrary to what has been said, there are different issues in each ward.I want the right to choose who will represent me...........someone who lives where I live, not someone who lives across town.

Thank you Judy, that was more "splaining" than I've heard from our council members. I appreciate your candor. People may decide to post with their full names, however, I have seen how nasty it gets here, and I prefer to be anonymous since I run a business.

Spritz, you're anonymous too.

wow, gretzing from the defenders of the mayor and those who feel like he is taking the lead from the White House. BUT it seems that the will of the people is to change. Change can be a good thing, why not give it a try. It is time to take the Ds and the Rs out of politics and local gov't is a good place to start. The founders never saw career politicians on the horizon, especially at the local level

And by the way...I am not a public figure any longer, but a private citizen who loves her city and is quite saddened that it is in trouble.

I certainly wish he had been true to his campaign promises to be a full time mayor, and had brought Gloversville from "Good To Great" but he has not. Leaving him out of the equation was not possible. I have done my part to promote Gloversville by volunteering, serving on boards and being the City Historian. I might ask what have you done ?

As for the council-Manager referendum......The last mayor (Hughes) was a disaster and that was evident in his first term, consequently that is why I worked to have him arrested when he tried to submit forged signatures on his petitions.Since we have had two abysmal mayors I think it is time to consider a city manager who has to be accountable on a daily basis for running the city, not every 4 years. That is why I am supporting the change. This city has gone no where in the past 4+ years and I think it is time to turn the leadership over to someone who can possibly manage this city without having a personal agenda.

Have you ever wondered why Dayton only has problems with the 2 women council members, the woman fire chief, and his failure to hire a much more qualified woman for the transit position hiring instead an inexperienced and unqualified friend of his ?

Well Jake..........when Dayton was elected, I supported him right up until his attitude became my way or the highway. He thought he was too smart to take advice and direction from someone older than he,and from others who tried to guide him. His first mistake was hiring the egotistical Jason Fazio who certainly moved him in the wrong direction and gave him very, very bad advice. He alienated the very people who were trying to help him. Then he thought, that as mayor he could do as he pleased, when he pleased. It has all been downhill from there. He has blocked and banned people who did support him because he cannot take criticism. He was and is ineffective as a mayor. I will continue to point out his mis-steps, not that it will do any good.

everybody who is anybody knows who is behind all the Facebook pages you speak of. Fulton Co & Beyond is an ass and I hate his Page. Front Page is a great page promoting the positives in Gloversville. Mayors page I agree has turned into a King bashing page which is mostly why I like it.

I am a private citizen living in the confines of the Gloversville city limit. I am not, as you are, a public figure, since Dayton King defeated you in your run for mayor. Since that run, I have watched you on Facebook work to defame the mayor from the start. I would not be as critical of you, if you would have tried to work with the mayor instead of your constant drone on how the mayor is ineffective. What about calling a truce and saying what can I, Ms. Marcoux, do to promote Gloversville? Business people see these comments against the mayor and run the other way. I for one was going to do business in Gloversville, but saw the infighting, and decided this is not the place to begin a new career. You have also supported the new change in government, but never said why? I would like to know this. Please inform. And leave Dayton out of the argument, because he will not be mayor if this change goes through.

JustAnotherOpinion stated he/she was watching outside of city lines. If I remember correctly, he/she scolded me because I was not a city resident, therefore had no opinion. Let me remind anyone who pays Gloversville school taxes, you do have a right to what goes on inside the city that spends your tax dollars!

Gloversville is my home, no matter where in the world I live. I have invested in Gloversville and wish with all my energies that it will continue and ultimately thrive. Yes, the tanneries and glove factories have left, but there are many ways this city can go. I will keep working with the organizations I support and the people I believe in to keep Gloversville moving forward in a positive direction. The success of Gloversville is not isolated just to the city, it reflects on the whole area around it. Everyone should be concerned.

All good blogs, Facebook pages and the like publish who the authors are. Mayors Past and Present, Front Page Gloversville and Fulton County and Beyond are mute on who is behind them. The Mayor's page is really about busting King. Anyone who puts out a Facebook page with no name to identify it is a coward. If I am going to read a source of information, I want to know who is behind it, and if there is an agenda.

Then there is the debate. NONE! Just one Council person saying "I've researched this and it's a good idea." That's not enough for me nor the residents of Gloversville.

As for Dayton vetoing the right to vote, he is giving everyone the right to vote at every election. Once you accept a city manager, selecting who runs Gloversville is in the hands of the council, not the voters. All those that do not agree, please give me good reasons why the city manager is better than what we have now. And don't give me Dayton King crap, he does not matter after he is not

Please, tell me I am wrong. I need the laugh today. Mayor King just took away the right of the voters to vote on something they were split right down the middle about. He did not just hurt the people who disagree with him, HE HURT YOU ALL! He STOLE YOUR VOICE and RIGHT TO CHOOSE! What do his silly, little followers say? "Thank You Mayor King! Might I have another? You are a God!!" Sadistic, self-hating fools who are duped by a free beer and some smoke being blown up their bum! WAKE UP GLOVERSVILLE! Put down the beer and LOOK at what your Mayor has done since in office. THIS is not a win, it is LOSS, anyway you look at it.

I find these debates so funny. This situation is great to watch from outside city lines. You have a great dynamic in Gloversville. It is a dynamic where the uneducated outweigh the educated. The informed that go to Council Meetings and read the paper outweigh those who do not. WHO do you think King is speaking of when he slanders the poor? YOU ARE ALL POOR! Your median income is something like 42K! In a city where someone can buy your vote at a local bar by getting you a free draft, you are all just victims waiting to happen. A man has come along that knows how to play your system. OMG he even has you convinced that your tax dollars are a good investment when he is doing the job you pay him do by CELL PHONE! Ha! That is great! If you compare what the king has done to what he claims, wouldn't you be shocked? I doubt it. I think the people who back him are just happy to have the free draft. Gloversville has a disease. Its name is Mayor King and nobody is smart enough to find the cure!
