King wants voters to OK gov’t change

June 12, 2014

GLOVERSVILLE — Mayor Dayton King prefers the city initially study a “citywide councilman” form of government, rather than a city manager type of government, if it wants to change city government at......

Sadly the issues in Gloversville remain the same as they have for many years. Having attended council meetings, chamber meetings, united way meetings it is always the same thing. I did not choose the right words when I said that the Mayor should be in control. The correct word would be lead if anyone would follow and stop with the small town politics and all that goes along with it. Again I say there is alot of work to be done and if everyone could get over themselves and focus on the tasks at hand maybe something would happen. If not then Gloversville will remain as it has for years.

If anyone would like to learn how to have even worse intra-governmental relations, why not ask the Mayor & Majority Leader of the City Council of Amsterdam up for a chat? Gloversville meetings seem like a love fest compared to theirs.

ugottabkidding.... a Mayor should LEAD, not control. That's the problem. HE, King Dayton, doesn't get that. He wants to CONTROL and that's NOT why he was elected.

The mayor shouldn't be pushing one idea or the other ... the ideas need to be presented to the residents of Gloversville with the facts (not hearsay or anecdotal stories) about the pros and cons of both proposals. This should be for the benefit of the residents of Gloversville, not for the benefit of either the mayor or those already on the council.

I feel that something needs to change. It appears that the current council is too controlling and that voters should be more involved in some of the decision making. The mayor should be in control. That is what a mayor is supposed to do. Enough with the tit for tat and let's get some effective change in Gloversville. There is alot to be done.

my feeling is that the "city manager" type of government has ben successful elsewhere. Keng Daytons proposal in response o thi discussion is childish. "Citywide councilmen" would (or could) leave wards in the city with no representation. That IS NOT the way to go. Once again, this is how I feel. But in my eyes, Kigdayton's proposal is more him saying, "hey, you want to make a proposal that would limit or strip my power? I can make a proposal that would limit or strip your power as well." typical childish reaction we've come to expect from him.
