For once, I agree with TiredOfTax. Violence surrounds today's kids, mainly in the form of video games. How many of us oldsters watched Superman on TV and then tied a bath towel around our necks and jumped off the garage roof? Yeah, not everybody, but that's my point. Many kids can play these video games, understand they're not real, and live normal lives. But some cannot.

I don't believe that there were no signs. Because nobody reported them doesn't mean nobody knew.

I believe that being cruel to animals is a start to desensitizing themselves to violence. There are many things that an unstable person will allow to influence their tendency to violence. Video games, TV shows and movies have all gone way beyond the normal violence these days and some demented individual may use these examples to define their reactions to situations, even thinking that they are normal thoughts. The decline in moral and ethical behavior, I believe is linked to the increased violence. Using the media's exposure and examples to act out their programmed responses.
