Mr Bobo, the only ego being displayed is yours with the insistence that everyone believe as you do. There is no big disconnect, just no need for a group of humans to declare themselves better than, because they get on their knees and worship invisible gods and make sacrifices to idols. To each their own, but please do not insist that others follow such foolish nonsense.

Aside from philosophical opinions, I wonder what architectural professional the Shrine hired that came up with the $1 million price tag. I hope it was done by professionals and not a guess by the Shrine leaders, and I hope the work goes out to bid with specs and a clerk of the works overseeing the project.

Skrocki, since you only believe in your assumptions, you'll never understand the connection of Faith and Reason, Religion and Redemption. It doesn't fit with your 'it's all about me' ego. With me and a lot of others it's 'E nomini Patri, et Fili e Spiritu Sancti. The big disconnect here is being afraid of the concept of Faith even as you exhibit faith in your assumptions. I pray for your enlightenment.

Have you ever noticed all people want to do around here is preserve the past by throwing money at it? I'm all for history but we've gotta live too.

Pray for another miracle. That way you won't have to pay the fundraiser his normal fee, which nobody mentioned in the article. If he is doing it for free, God bless him. If not, be up front about it. Since the Shrine is not part of any R.C. Diocese, and that's a plus, they are pretty much on their own. If they were an Albany Diocese affiliate Hubbard would probably have closed it by now. Since the diocese went on a spree of closing area churches and seizing the assets while undergoing a multi-million $ capital campaign to spruce up their cathedral in Albany, many local RCs are bummed out and not in a giving mood. That's too bad, this sacred place is the most worthy of our support.

Well if not the moonies, how about some*****fire southern evangelist? At least that would be mildly interesting to watch. You're right tho - religion just doesn't generate the cash it used to.

Mr BoBo is is not just Islam, it is ALL religions that preach their own variety of hate. Free will is not "given" by anyone, it is innate. The concept of gods was created by man to explain what they did not understand at the time. The idea that in 2014 people are still praying to invisible gods to grant wishes is as rediculous as finding a genie in a bottle that grants wishes. The idea that the Shrine needs a million dollars to build altars and idols to worship is equally rediculous. Religion was created by man to control other men. It serves no other purpose.

"man made religions and gods used as vehicles to instill bigotry and hate on those who do not follow". Skrocki, what does the cult of islam have to do with this article, your hate and fear of all Religion notwithstanding? Oh well, the good news is even with your God-given free will you don't believe in Him, He always believes in you despite what you think. I hope we can raise the funds but if we can't, the Spirit and Faith will always be there. That is what I believe.

Those "moonies" you are referring to already bought millions of dollars worth of property from the Auriesville Shrine and have been living in the former Jesuit dormitory for seven years! They are a Chinese Buddhist congregation who call themselves the World Peace and Health Organization. They also bought two former churches from the Albany Catholic diocese that now serve as Buddhist temples. Let's face it, people are no longer as keen on religion as they used to be. The younger generation has no use for man made religions and gods used as vehicles to instill bigotry and hate on those who do not follow. Let it go bankrupt, the prime real estate will be a great opportunity for Montgomery County Business Development Center to market.

Doubt it since it must already be tax free as a religious institution.

Would it be possible for them to file as a Historical spot and get some of the money that way?

That place used to be packed all summer with busloads of saint whisperers. Maybe they can sell it to those moonies from Amsterdam.
