Get the government out of education - reconfigure common core or drop it altogether - no food dictates. What next, "government"-an edict on how much oxygen must be absorbed with each breath?? No wonder Putin is eating our lunch in international dealings and the Chinese educational system is burying us in science and math.

Sorry Patriot. Without a set of standards the schools will continue to put out a product that it is inferior. I so ire of cashiers who demand $15 an hour but can't make change without the use of a calculator.

There is an old saying tat applies here - "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink." And as soon as the liberals in this country figure tat out we will have less government all the way around.

Astorino for Governor.

So, do any of you still think this is about our children? It's about food, it's all about money and controlling low achievement education to further enslave future generations to Govt dictates. Get you children out of Americas Third World Public Schools, unless hungry and stupid kids are the only results you're looking for.

Let's hear from the teachers since many district employees eat subsidized school lunches in the cafeteria every day. When a student foregoes an included lunch item, an orange for example, does the cashier stockpile them and allow an adult who is buying a lunch to have all of them if he or she wishes?

Scarecrow, if you are referring to "common core" as "standards", you are part of the problem. What was wrong with the "standards" of the 1960s ?? With all the added technology, those old goals should be easy to hit. BUT not everybody will get a trophy

At what point did our country lose it's collective minds? I'm about to lose mine--an extra chicken nugget?? I repeat myself, but truly, the inmates are running the asylum!

Gemini, you hit the target when you wrote "collective minds". I realize what you meant but it got me to thinking..the progressive collective desires to not only take away individualism, your mind, so to speak, it also suffocates ambition. Therein lies the problem because ALL America is suffering.
