Careful, careful - We still want to support our "sister civilizations" - see Samuel P. Huntington's "Clash of Civilizations & the Re-making of the World Order" (published 1995, I think).

Huntington's premise was the distinctness of America. We have a President who believes otherwise.

This move is designed to further splinter Americans into several groups who will now be busy looking the other way and defending their turf. Now Putin has pulled up Obama's skivvies over his head and tied a knot. Might as well leave and give Europe to Russia and the rest to China. On the other hand, now the World has two idiots. Putin just put Russia into an 'Afghanistan' in Ukraine, as if once wasn't enough. Good to know we're not alone this time.

We were caught with our pants down before WWII and it looks like we will again.

MrBob & Pards: what do you suggest that the United States do with regards to the Ukraine? Thanks in advance for your answers.

I would not be talking about shrinking my military while Putin is taking over Ukraine. I would start putting pressure where it counts, on the Oligarts wallets. Then I would look at the protection treaties that were signed and honor them. Bullies tend not to bully when they know it going to be painful.

Adkkev, now what would you do?

Russia needs oil in the mid $90/bbl. range or higher. Putin is after Ukraine's oil and gas pipelines feeding Europe. Get the Keystone pipeline going, flood the market with cheaper Canadian and US oil, bring the price per bbl. down and economically stab Russia in the heart. That's what I'd do.

Oh, and don't let events, threats or the media scare you into believing America is no longer a Superpower or a force to be reckoned with. Statist merely wish it were so. If you repeat a lie enough...etc. In case anybody forgot, there are millions upon millions of American Citizens who do not wear the Uniform but will defend to the death our way of life.

Politically & economically, Mr. Bob nailed it. As I've said countless times, BECOME ENERGY INDEPENDENT. This eases our foreign indebtedness and creates many jobs. Simple economics. Since 95% of all wars are grounded in economics, for the USA to become energy independent makes common sense.

Prior to America's official entry into World War I, many Americans volunteered to serve in the Canadian & British Armies to help France. Later, many Americans went to Spain to help the republican side in the Spanish Civil War. Reading the other comments, it sounds to me that most of the other commenters are ready to volunteer to serve with the Ukrainian Army to prevent Russia from winning the Crimea. Did I get it right?

Pards: economic pressure, because it's about the only thing we can do at this point. MrBob: how do you get the oil companies & the commodities speculators to keep that price low? (I'm not disagreeing with your idea, just wondering how you force the free market to keep prices low ... there's no oil/gas shortage right now, worldwide, yet prices are over $100/barrel, mostly due to speculation)

Grant18, no. Adkkev, wrong premise; you can't 'force' the free market...that's why is called the FREE Market. That's ok, Obama can't figure it out either.

Russia wants Ukraine's oil. Hmmm, does that sound familiar?...Oops forgot, we invaded Iraq because of "proof" they had WMD's!

Four easy steps that will lower the cost of energy immediately: Lower the State tax on gasoline, lower the federal tax on a gallon of gas, open the Marcellus Shelf to fracking, have Obama announce he will open the Alaska oil fields. The price of oil would drop to $70 in no time!!

Grant, If I thought for a minute that my going over there as a volunteer would make my kids lives safer I would already be there. Reducing the size of our armed forces so we can pay for more phones or have draq queen shows is completely wrong and sends the wrong message. Determining what manufacturing and raw materials are critical to our national defense and bringing it home is. There are ways of sending messages to Putin without violence are available. Ruling it out just gives him carte blanche just like with the beginning of WWII.

Events have shown exactly who is in charge in Russia, certainly not a clueless Community Organizer like we currently suffer with in America. Note to the World: Obama, who is nothing more than a political dilettante, will only last a little longer so don't do anything stupid, we'll be back.
