County needs trash plan

February 2, 2014

The idea Montgomery County will deposit its garbage at the Fulton County landfill brings to mind the old phrase about one man’s trash being another man’s treasure....

HT, you don't need any road to haul trash anymore. Use drones flying in the trash.

Never have I seen a Leader-Herald editorial more on target. Siting the Mud Road landfill was a very, very difficult process but Fulton County did it & is now reaping the benefit. No way should Montgomery County's decision to avoid the siting process operate in their favor now!

If MC comes to terms with FC on a solid waste deal, what better way to get the trash from the two transfer stations in MC to Mud Road than the new connector/bypass road. Both transfer stations are on NYS 5S with Fultonville at the mid point. But,if 30 and 30A are used, send the long, heavy trailers in the middle of the night when traffic volume is the lowest. The route used and the impact on traffic are considerations that should be part of the plan/deal.

Fuss and feathers! All they need to do is pile it higher and also let the good citizens pick thru it and shoot rats like my brothers used to do at the old landfill. Going to the dump and looking for treasurers used to be fun around here.

I agree completely. Accept enough trash from MC so to eliminate the need to add soil to the landfill as is currently being done. Or give MC a 5 or 10 year deal in which time they can work on their long term plan. Or even better accept all their trash with an agreement that FC will send all it's trash to the new MC landfill that is built to coincide with the closing of the mud rd. Facility. MC has a lot more land suitable for a facility than we do.
