Weapons bans not the answer

December 30, 2013

A small unit of the Federal Bureau of Investigation may be paving the way for state governments in search of a system that could help prevent mass shootings and violence, not through weapons bans,......

Liberals never think past the word 'victim'. They don't realize that in trying to grab peoples guns and Rights, they are also abstractly grabbing their own guns and Rights. What if future circumstances force them to change their minds and suddenly realize THEY now need personal protection because THEY'RE an 'Endangered Species'? What then? They will have managed to screw themselves and will have nobody else to blame because of the severe lack of critical thinking skills. The irony is that these are the very same people who now, because of their ideology, want to lead us to that conclusion.

Ever wonder how effective a IED is? No guns needed. Need plans to build a weapon, no need to look far they are every where and even without plans there are plenty of people that will find a way to kill and maim. Take away guns from lawful gun owners will provide the path to killings like we have never seen before!

I also wonder what you mean by 'push back'. Do you mean vigilante squads of illegally armed citizens creating mayhem like the Urban Tribes in Detroit and Chicago? Already got 'em. Go there and insist THEY give up their guns, see how far you get. Legally armed citizens do not need to push back, we're already armed. Frightened rabbits and sheep are the ones who are doing the pushing against the Constitution.

BF, do you realize all those incidents you cited were carried out in Gun Free Zones? Oops, how inconvenient for your narrative. Somebody needs to explain to you that PEOPLE kill people. Guns, cars, hammers, screwdrivers, the low end of the pool, concrete shoes...none of these have a brain. Now, start using yours.

72 unfortunate and needless deaths. Concealed carry is not as prevalent as you would like everyone to think. If it was not for the incessant news media you probably would not even have heard about it. As bad as it is to have something like this happen it does not warrant the knee jerk reaction from the powers to be. Most legislation brought forward was not well thought out. Most of the warning signs exhibited by deranged persons were ignored. Just think of all the people we could save by prohibiting people from climbing stepladders or taking baths.

The nut case in Newtown killed 27 people, the one at Virginia Tech killed 33, and the one in Aurora killed 12. That's how far they went despite legal private gun ownership in the US. Our privately armed society has had chance after chance to "push back" but the evidence shows that they do not. Private gun ownership does not have a deterrent effect on crime.

On the other hand if more people were armed and trained how far do you think the nut case would go then? In a country of 330 million more people are hurt and killed falling off a ladder than are killed by some nut with a gun going into school or movie theater. We have become a society that waits in shutdown until someone comes to our rescue. It really is time that we as a society grows a set and pushes back.

That's the point you are missing - it IS the gun and the gun's capacity for killing many people in a short span of time. If it the mentally ill person who is the problem then why don't we hear about mass stabbings or mass garrotings when a gun isn't available? Because the gun provides the means to kill quickly, in volume, and before help can intervene.

So when a nut decides that they want to kill someone and they use something else to accomplish their task what then? It is not the gun, knife or car that decides kill or hurt someone. It is the nut. I choose to keep the gun and get rid of the nut.

I have never seen a conservative that minds being called a conservative, but if you call a liberal a liberal they get all bent out of shape. Is that why they changed the name to progressives? I can see getting mad when you have leaders like Pelosi, Reid and Obama representing you!

You are right MrBob - I think it is right to be terrified of a gun in the hands of a mentally ill person, because the person making the decision about the use of the gun cannot be relied upon to use sound judgment. If your position is that the problem is the mentally ill person and not the gun then my response would be that a mentally ill person with a gun is a potential mass killer, as shown repeatedly by recent history, but a mentally ill person without a gun is just a mentally ill person. In every one of those instances of mass shootings the math is simple - remove the gun from the equation and the killings drop to zero.

One last thing about this gun issue. Libs have a sick habit of imparting decision making skills to inanimate objects like Guns and SUV's. Not only is this sick, it's dangerously affected the liberal mind to the point they are terrified of that which they cannot control....so EVERYTHING else is dangerous. Maybe they're right to be terrified. What say you BF?

Why do I assume you're a liberal? Because you talk like one. Are you trying to deny it?? Are you not sure enough of your Communist ideology to stand up and proudly proclaim the virtues of the Collective? Come on man, I shout from my soapbox the values and benefits of Constitutional Individualism whenever I can. So whats wrong with you're way of thinking that you are unwilling to do the same with your supposed enlightening liberalism? In the future, don't bother trying to poke holes in my America, we've heard all about Communists fear of an armed citizenry before from more and less articulate people. Concentrate on defending your own liberal nonsense.

Why would you assume I'm a liberal? I'm a rational, reasonably intelligent adult citizen and everything I've seen and everything I've read tells me private gun ownership is a bad idea. I truly cannot think of one positive benefit of private gun ownership. Thank goodness the framers of the constitution provided a mechanism for getting rid of laws that have either outlived their usefulness or were morally bankrupt from the beginning. Prohibition and slavery are 2 that come to mind.

Here's how I see it FedUp, as I am Taxed Enough Already I am also fed up with the looters/moochers that have been allowed to fester and grow in our America. It's a new Year and I'd like to remind those loud, demanding leeches that WE TEA Americans stoke your liberal gravy train and whenever you try to bite the hands that feed you I will be there to smack your nose with a newspaper.

Oh, and adkkev, gun ownership is a constitutionally protected Right. You know that. Owning a car and practically anything else is not. Reality occasionally trumps logic and some comparisons just don't work.

As we continue to lay down new laws, 40,000 of them take effect today. And we remove our rights one word at a time we are headed towards liberal land where everyone gets exactly the same if you sit on your hands and do drugs or go to work and earn it. There is something wrong with a plan that makes the rights disappear and the illegal legal.

GVILLE - We need them to protect ourselves from liberals like you that want to take all I have EARNED and redistribute it to those that have EARNED NOTHING. Lets get them out of their pajama pants and out of my pockets and into a job (or two) so they can give me a little tax relief. NO MORE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS. Time to call things like they are - We are a welfare state and that has to stop!!

BLACKFRAN: You state "The reason for my stance on this issue is this - every gun-related tragedy in recent history (Columbine, Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, Amish school, Aurora, Gabby Giffords, Herkimer, etc)was carried out with a privately owned gun." They were also carried out by mentally ill people. So, using your logic, should we ban mentally ill people? Or should we just punish the responsible owners for the deeds of the few? Your solution is a typical liberal solution. Just like when irresponsible parents have more children than they can handle, who pays? Those of us responsible enough to take care of themselves. When someone cant find a job that pays enough to live on, who pays? Those of us that put the time and effort into making something of ourselves just to have you bleeding heart liberals want to take my hard earned money and give to the lazy and irresponsible. 2014 is the end of political correctness. It is the year of personal responsibility!!
