uncontested elections and low voter turnout seems to be that most of society is not concerned as to the way things are going. The way to help your community is to either vote FOR someone as opposed to casting a ballot for the lesser of 2 evils, or if you are not pleased with the status quo run for office yourself. BUT either way citizens need to wake up. That government of the people, by the people and for the people starts in your neighborhood

This is a comment to the Letter to the Editor that bikes are in danger when riding WITH the flow of traffic. I am an very avid cyclist---up to 6000 miles per year---and I am appalled at certainty in the face of her lack of awareness or experience. Cars leave their lane unexpectedly SO often--texting? attention span, lack of awareness or focus? alcohol and drugs? skill? stupidity? aggression? possessiveness? Cars have NEARLY hit me in every type of road circumstance and have been hit thrice. I watch a car back up and hit a bike going the opposite direction. I watched a car hit a bike on the sidewalk. Car drivers do not see motorcycles, pedestrians and bikes. And drivers immediately assume they are in the right! Car drivers do not even see other cars. Last week my car was hit by another car while I was in the proper lane doing proper speed. Too much chutzpah, Mr. Joe Parker of Mayfield. Too much chutzpah. Open YOUR eyes, see the world, become aware of others. Respect, that's all. Respe

It is totally unsupportable that "improprieties" in the educational system tend to be "covered up" in small local venues. These "improprieties" play into the stability of the system in these communities, affect the actions and performances of the teachers, and are 100% unacceptable. It is irrelevant whether the exposure of these shortcomings (in all probability illegal or extremely embarrassing) causes major fallout among the educational heirarchy. Total disclosure is a must and should be legally enforced.

There will always be candidates with no opposition or there will be low voter turnout. That is not so bad for highway sup'ts, clerks and where there are elected assessors. In these cases, continuity might be better in the long run. There were areas where I believe voter turn out was better than average such as Gloversville and Johnstown where the mayoral races got a lot of attention, as well as the hotly contested supervisor's contest in Broadalbin where more than 1100 ballots were cast between walk-in and absentees.

hey drugs, if there is anyone that's not pleased with the status quo, it's most definitly you. Are you going to take your own advice? What office will you run for? My guess is that you'll do nothing but tell every one else what they should be doing. You're not part of the solution. You may or may not be part of the problem, but you certainly add to it.

I believe that JEERS to lack of candidates is completely correct. Getting a candidate that is good is very hard to do, getting a great one is no longer possible. What incentive does one have to do a great job in public service? Do you believe that doing a great job is reward enough? I believe that putting yourself in position to make things run better also puts you right in the line of fire from people that are from the "other" side of the political spectrum! Personal hardship and attacks should not be a daily concern for anyone but when you step up to "serve" you get attacked for every single action. You want great people to step up and do the right thing? Start by being just a bit respectful of the position that the office should get. Then learn to be just a little bit polite. You can disagree without the PERSONAL attacks and assumptions.

Anyone else notice that Tots is preaching the exact opposite of how he ACTS?

The new meme is the politics of personal destruction BEFORE one is elected, never mind the later attacks. Patsmart's comment was what TOT was talking about. You're primed for an personal attack pat so lets all hear about HOW you KNOW in what manner TOT 'ACTS'. Personal experience or an opinion of TOT's written word? Big difference.

usedto, I vote, like every other voter in the place where I live. In my area we have lone candidates too. I'm sure that this goes on all over the country (you EVEN in your neighborhood)and it painfully evident that low voter turnout is also becoming normal. BUT this discussion is on the LH forum, so it is being discussed here -- NOT where I live now or you.

TOT, seriously?

Start by being just a bit respectful of the position that the office should get. Then learn to be just a little bit polite. You can disagree without the PERSONAL attacks and assumptions.

A new day has dawned!

Bobbi, TOT acts with her keyboard. don't you read anything? You react when you see a name.

Well I see you are still on the personal attack agenda. There is a great difference between politeness and hate, there also is a HUGE difference between being critical of idiotic actions and disrespectful of a person or office. You talk about assumptions then list a bunch on your post, you talk about respect then name call. Progressiveness in its true LIBERAL form!

At the minimum patsmart was not disrespectful or name calling. A disagree without the liberal nastiness that some other posters have!

What I see usedto is you calling TOT 'her' and another poster calling TOT 'him' and you never knowing what the h-ell you're talking about, just a lot of assumptions, pronouncements and more of the same liberal garbage out of you. Is that an act or the real thing?

Tot, I agreed wholeheartedly with your post. I was just pointing out the inconsistencies of how you act on this site. If I were to use your scale of disrespect, nastiness and rudeness, I would have to think you’re the biggest “Liberal” on here.

Bobbi, Lame as always, at least you’re consistent.

OK, that was a little nasty. I guess I’ll have to change my party affiliation.

so now you both condone lies? Very inconsistent. And drugs, I still need you to show me where I've supported the administration. I asked you before and you ignored me. I object to your constant rants offering nothing positive and I've said that before too.

Individualists are always consistent patsmart. We know who we are and don't have to lie or resort to subterfuge to get a point across. We believe our opinions and beliefs are ours, not somebody elses forced on us. It stands to reason that a collectivist lib would think that that sort of 'extremist' reasoning is lame, libs don't know any other way. No surprise there. Meanwhile, as libs continue to exploit low information Americans I'll continue my simple, consistent and occasionally contentious agenda of crushing liberalism every chance I get. So yes patsmart, I am consistent and not ambiguous about it either. Two traits libs hate.
