$5,000 Bail for someone who pulled a gun on police officers? Who determined that amount was appropriate? I'd like to see an investigation into who came up with that amount of bail; clearly there is some sort of conflict of interest. Yes, I am speaking to you Leader Herald...have at about an old fashioned investigation? You shouldn't always leave these sorts of things to other papers.

It seems like the Da is trying to defend him,"he didn't attack her and they knew each other" if it were any regular citizen the bail would be much more, plus pulling a gun on officers WOW, conflict of interest is an understatement

If you read more carefully you would understand that the DA is in no way defending him. Simply saying that it wasn't a stranger rape and that the public should not be worried that he is a danger to anyone.

On the contrary Kat12095; they are saying he's not a treat to the general population because he "only" raped someone he knew. The DA also made it clear that the victim was not beaten (allegedly). A Canadian study that found long-term recidivism could be as high as 88.3%. (Carl Bialik, "How Likely Are Sex Offenders to Repeat Their Crimes?", Wall Street Journal, January 24, 2008).

This particular DA is a joke.

First, let me start by saying that I am in no way saying that this did or didn't happen. In this circumstance, they use the word rape to describe what the charges are against this officer, but it is only considered rape because this girl is unable to consent to sexual act at her age. Rape by definition is the use of force to make another person commit sexual acts. However, I think the general public should think about how old they were when they were first involved sexually with another person. Also, these charges are the result of an investigation, so there is nothing to indicate that the girl involved felt like she had been coerced or violated unless she makes a statement saying so. I think as adults, we don't make it clear to teenagers that they are a part of the choices they make as well. That doesn't mean that I don't agree that $5,000 bail is ridiculous, and that he will end up getting off with a much lesser charge than a person convicted of a similar crime.

I don't know about you Alexisgirl, but my first sexual experience might have been at a young age, but not with someone twice my age!!!! gross! You might not define it as rape, but he is a predator! He is suppose to uphold the law! Just another stain on the Police community.
