actually ataxpayer, the tax payers would still have to support them thru rehab if DSS sends the applicant for a drug test and it comes back positve. this is in the state constitution, do I like it? no! But it's there. DSS can send a recipient for a drug test if DSS notices something suspicious (i dont know if that is spelled right) or if they have been on for 36 months or are at any time non compliant. As to peopole living the house that should be on the case, that is why DSS has homevisits done (that is how DSS finds out). The workers at DSS contrary to popular belief are very observant when it comes to these issues. The public in general seems to forget that the workers at DSS are tax payers too.

didd30 - if they withhold information such as who lives with them, their "under the table" job, or the fact that they collect benefits from another state what makes you think they would be honest when asked "have you ever been treated for drug or alcohol abuse?" and the HIPPA regulations put very tight grips on that info. Even so, NYS does not have a law in place to withhold benefits if they are an admitted addict. I say hand them ALL a dixie test dirty, you're on your own!

I hope they're slapped with heavy fines, and the LH publishes those fines. As was said, maybe it will make some of the deadbeats think twice. Even though there are many differing opinions here, and some spirited discussions, it sounds like many of us have one thing in common....we've all worked 1 or 2 jobs all our lives, or have owned a business, and haven't sat around and tried to milk the system like the welfare scum who was arrested.

it is actually a questionaire that the worker goes over that includes: have you lost a job in the past two years, have you have legal problems in the past two years, have you ever been treated for Drugs or alcohol abuse before plus several more questions.

These are crimes against the taxpayers, money stolen from us . I am sick of carrying these welfare scabs on my back .. I pay my own bills and feed myself. DA Sira has to do a better job at prosecuting these putrid individuals. Maybe future welfare recipient morons will think twice...NOT.

Great job DSS! Keep those arrests coming, for posting their names in the paper and pressing charges against them. Do they think that they are so smart that they won't get caught? Maybe the next time they consider filing for services in which they are not entitled to they will remember that it is called fraud...and the DSS and the law will catch up with them. If they have the time to figure out how to get something for nothing: then maybe they need to get a job! Let the era of entitlement end!

If convicted they each should be made to pay back the full amount with interest and be banned for life from collecting assistance, not even a penny.
