Dave, although it's dated, your comment is still funny and you've earned a free pass for 'One outrageous statement'. Use it well.

Drugs, what I've figured out is for the last two generations people's skin has thinned and they have become more afraid of words rather than the metaphorical 'sticks and stones'. Words like bigot, racist and homophobic mean nothing to this old white guy but it sure bothers the multitude of poorly socialized amongst us. This is the result of elevating emotional thinking and responses over everything else. Some posters here reinforce that last sentence.

MrBoB, haven't you figured it out that racism and all that is connected to it is only OK when it directed toward Caucasian males over 50 ?? And anything heard by more than 3 people that is said by "an old white guy" is either politically incorrect, insensitive, or racist ?? No matter how true it is.

Because of the negative connotation surrounding their name, the Washington Redskins have announced that, from this point forward, they will be known simply as the Redskins.

What amazes me is that with all that is going on in our country, with all that we could focus our national attention on our president thinks that changing the name of a football team is of the utmost importance. He would not negotiate a delay of the personal insurance mandate that may have saved his beloved healthcare but jumped into a debate on the correctness of what a team calls ITSELF! Do you think that a person would call himself or his team a name that is insulting? Would you believe that the reason that they call themselves a name is because they are proud to associate with the strength and the tenacity that that name suggests? I say lets fight the real issues and leave the grand gestures out of politics!

I'll take this seriously when blacks stop calling each other the N word and Rev. Jackson apologizes for calling NYC Hymietown.

Candidates who do not attend meeting to see what the issues are and who is on what side of the issues will need to play catch up for a long time and that is a waste of time and could cost their taxpayers. But over many years of following politics I see that many candidates who seldom if ever attend the meetings continue to get elected. And they get elected only because they are registered in the right political party and belong to the right local clique.

gvill70, I agree that it seems to be only a few who objected, How ever I do not endorse this kind of action. But the same is true with the Washington Red Skins name for the foot ball team, that has been their name for many years and until just lately it became unacceptable and only by what seems to be a few.

gville, it was the way it was presented in a derogatory way. I also have heard hispanics use that term.

I first heard amsterico back in the early 80's and that was from a guy from Puerto Rico as a shout out to his home.. How did it go from a greeting to a hate crime in 30 years? Seems the administration is more upset than anyone else..
