The Amsterdam students have taken this in a very "civil" way. I have heard the term being used for years. I never hit me about it being derogatory, never gave it much thought, no one seemed to complain. I think it is more the "demeanor" of it, or the way it was presented is what was so upsetting. I have heard of "China town" and"Little Italy" is that offensive also?

It is clearly a put down. I've lived in this area my whole life; and on many occasions I've heard this phrase and it's always used in a context to make light of Amsterdam and it's sizable Puerto Rican community. In this case, the term was shouted at a football game; for anyone to think it is a term of endearment is just not being honest; and that goes for "Knickman".

Some of us more seasoned folks know where 'polack hill' is in Amsterdam. You're offended only because you want to be.

I agree it may not be a slur but Amsterdam was loosing if it at all sounded like a put down the coach should have been forced to forfeit on the spot would it be OK to call the other team "hillbillies" that is a real putdown and I am sure would have caused a riot
