Press needs freedom

August 14, 2013

Our nation’s Founders disagreed on much. But on one thing — the necessity of a vigorous, unfettered press to defend Americans’ rights — they were solidly in agreement....

" How do you know what Snowden said is a fact"? The answer is Ron....The President, NSA Head and the Justice Dept all agree it is. Otherwise why would they spend so much time on another 'phony' scandal.

And Ron, the Obama administration will not release the facts or the real documents, it shows just how incompetent they truly are!

Ron, how do YOU know that YOU have any knowledge of anything? I trust that the people that are telling their story are rightfully afraid of what they may encounter when the people in charge decide to shut them up. You can believe the news released from the government controlled media if you want but it is NOT what Obama promised when he was elected... remember all that talk from Obama about how everything GWB did was wrong and he was going to end it, he MULTIPLIED IT! But your progressive friends do not see any of that! He promised to be the most honest and open administration that there ever was... he gave us the complete opposite. Nothing gets to the press that he does not approve and that is bull poopie. just like he is!

drugs, Please show me the real facts about anything you posted. All you and anyone else has seen is the stuff printed I the news media. Show me the true facts, If the news papers have the written facts why is it they refuse to publish them as for the electronic media they could offer the written facts to the public just asking. But they do not offer and real facts

Ron1960, sooo- it's Snowden accusations that, if they can be proven correct, that would cause you to help hang Barry???? Benghazi, the IRS, and a few other hiccups don't bother you, right ???

TOT, You would take the word of someone that does not have the backbone to standup and defend his actions. HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT SNOWDEN SAYS IS FACT? At least the president is still here doing what Snowden refuses to do. And it is fools like you that take everything that people like Snowden says as fact now you did not work for the NSA and you do not have the files that Snowden claims to have so your just pushing you agenda. You may be proven right but as of now your only spreading gossip. If you can show me proof that your correct I will join you and work to get the president out of office along with every member of the NSA committee. Your talking as you do here makes you look like a fool, nothing you posted about this situation would never be considered in court.

About that top of the heap person... he smells like poopie to me!

The Obama administration faced a backlash from congressional Democrats on Friday following revelations that the National Security Agency broke privacy rules and overstepped its authority thousands of times since 2008. The details were reported late Thursday in The Washington Post, based on an audit and other secret documents provided by NSA leaker Edward Snowden. The report challenged claims by President Obama just last week that the NSA was not abusing its authority, and complicated his effort to reassure Americans and Congress that -- with a little more oversight and transparency -- the surveillance programs are nothing to be worried about. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi called the latest reports "extremely disturbing."

Of course it is sarcasm. Used to is of the Obama mindset... you know right is wrong, up is down backwards thinking. So when used agrees with what is right, you just know that it is... in his short circuited mind that he believes it has to be wrong. I say for future reference there drugs, if it sounds right and used wrote it, just give it a thumbs down. He is either wrong or sarcastic every single time.

WOW, no comments allowed on today's opinion that we should help in Nigeria. That's probably a good thing because they don't really want or need us there. Maybe send PeacefulWorld and usedtolivethere with some cookies and milk to talk things over

I understand it's you opinion Ron, I just do not agree with it. To me, what you are saying is the 'top' is untouchable so lets act like mosquito's, bite the body politic in the ankle and maybe somebody will stop to scratch. No sir, go straight for the eyes and blind them.

Mr. BOB, I did not surrender to big government . It is unfortunate that you do not understand what I said. You are never going to change big government from the top down. But when people like some of the posters here keep complaining about the top government they are not getting anything done. But you just can not understand that.

BoB, it's hard to believe that people can't see the molly-coddling going on by the lame stream media with this administration. It seems like CNN may be making a return to journalism. Check the Blaze tv and **** --

ToT, we take it back like the Nike slogan -- Just do it

When did you decide to surrender to Big Government Ron? As long as you believe there is nothing you can do, you wont and Big Government wins despite a bottom up solution. I'll use some strawmen too, a lot of US never gave up and never will. Yes, local elections matter a great deal and have made huge inroads. Take a look at the last Electoral Map, the 'Blue' strongholds are located in large cities and both Coasts and, as a result of inept liberal policies, these liberal bastions of waste, corruption and arrogance are falling apart right before the Countries eyes. Liberals' idea that you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet is fine for them...just as long as it's not MY eggs they're scrambling.

I get a real laugh out of some of the posters here. They get all upset about what the federal government is doing, true I do not agree with some of what the federal government is doing but there is little that I can do about that. The posters here do not seem to care that millions of dollars was taken under some questionable conditions and they refuse to do anything about it. These posters just can not understand that to change the top of government you can get it done mush faster by changing the bottom of government. So getting involved in the local problems and solving them will shake up the top of the government. But with the voter turn out around here in school board elections and elections for the local government is so low that nothing is going to change until the general population starts getting involved and voting.

That is very true, the liberal media is up the presidents bowel... and together they want to silence any new station that is not progressive news all the time. THAT is why Fox News is on his enemies list.

BF1, what is there about the Constitution that you don't like? You have this backwards, getting back to the Constitution is to deny the current administrations idea that the Constitution and Bill of Rights are 'Bills of Negative Rights' because it limits what Govt. can do. 'Free Press' does NOT mean the Press is free to do the Govts. bidding like it does now.

Is this article about the press in America? The same 'journalists' who are 6 feet up the Govt's arse? Are we supposed to be that concerned about a bunch useless modern political hacks who spew out exactly what the administration wants while crying that they are the protectors of freedom and defenders of our rights?? That Press? Are you friggin kidding????!! Nice joke to start my day LH, thanks.

I am on the fence about this issue - on the one hand, the need for and value of freedom of the press is self-evident to any reasonably intelligent citizen; on the other hand, what wouldn't you tolerate in order to prevent another 9/11? I know I have oversimplified but I think this balancing act is the crux of the issue. Today's world is a much different place than the one the framers of our constitution lived in. We can't keep blindly falling back on "it's in our constitution so it must be right" and ignoring the realities of 21st century life.

And whatever happened to the "fairness doctrine". You know, the nonsensical idea that the govt. had to ensure equal time for liberal and conservative media. This in response to conservatives domination of talk radio even though the libs dominate the network news, newspaper and NPR.

It is not just the press, it is EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THE WORLD! The US government is violating YOUR right to privacy every single second of every single day... for national security purposes they say. I want to know how do we know what they are truly doing and how, if we do not agree, could we do anything about it? We gave them the power to do this, now how can we take it back?
