Ok libs, keep on believing your own hype about taxing our way to prosperity, it's been working so well. Oh, wait, it hasn't but that doesn't matter to a lib, only 'intention' matters instead of results. Ron, you're quite right, it's easy to find 'real' facts, but you liberals expect your made up 'good facts' propaganda to be taken as gospel and not to be questioned. Rs's childish attempt to put the onus on me is, well, childish as usual. Libs hate to be challenged when in fact, liberals are constantly challenged where the truth is concerned and unintentionally let it be known. My proof is Ronald Reagan, what's yours.

Mr. BoB, You do not seem to understand where the money that funds the EDC's comes from. Most of it comes from the local taxpayers, and who gets the benefits of that money it is the companies that move in the local area and after just a few years of not needing to pay property taxes they up and leave the local area> So tell me that this is not a form of corporate welfare at the expense of the local property taxpayer. Then you have the unfunded Mandates and those mostly benefit the businesses. You talk about studies and it makes no difference what the subject is for every study you find that agrees with how you feel there are just as many that disagree with how you feel and explain to me why do you believe what some one else tells you when it is quite simple to find the true facts.

MrBoB51, if you want to hit Dave for not providing the proper cite for his 'Congressional Study' fact, then can you please cite the 'fact' you stated on the other topic today that 'concluded' raising taxes doesn't increase revenue for the fed?

I guess you have never heard of garbage in garbage out. No matter what the study you always have to read the fine print.

Dave, you've already tried that 'congressional study' crap on us and when I asked you which 'study', by whom and when, instead of answering, you ran away because for every 'study' you 'find' I can find a real one that refutes your liberal propaganda. Your made up references didn't work then and it won't work now. Don't you know that property taxes pay for Social Welfare, not your so called Corp. welfare? In fact, $.54 of every dollar I pay in property taxes in MC goes to Social Welfare with an astounding 0% rate of return on that 'investment', FC is at $.56/dollar. Where is your real outrage about that instead of your faux outrage about 'Big Anything'? You should be outraged and angry about 'Big Social Welfare', that's where the real theft is occurring. Why you're not is why you are a liberal. As to your query, I am a Constitutional Individualist and a (heheh) registered Democrat. So to be accurate, you can call me a 'phony democrat'.

DaveGibson, MrBob doesn't care about numbers. That's because numbers can never be distorted.

But Anna, most of today's youth only look to tomorrow for new technology and gadgets. They don't care what happened yesterday let alone the rich history of the area. Their attitude is "Who cares about that old stuff anyway? Hey have you seen that new Ipadphonelaptop with awesome sound ??? It will even boost your grades so you can graduate."

Trying to keep this on a positive note, the position of a historian should give our youth some consideration. Even as an apprenticeship with adult guidance, as I posted below. It is our legacy to keep our heritage alive and to not include our young people would be a disservice to all.

Does that study also address the cost to a community for those "employees" if Walmart is not there? I am still waiting on the answer to what specific businesses went out "because of Walmart". Every body quotes it but no one seems to be able identify them.

According to a congressional study, a Super Walmart's corporate welfare adds $900k to a community's social services bill. Do you consider yourself a conservative, MrBob? A real conservative would be opposed to any business that has that kind of a negative impact since your county tax bill will go up to pay for it.

Holy crap dave, where was your optimism and 'concern' for FC when the subject was Walmart??? I didn't forget that you were one of the biggest negatives regarding the Walmart expansion. Liberal disingenuousness rears its ugly head once again.

The theft of the coffee pot from the county should have been reported no questions. How ever with all the publicity that this incident received from the press was in my opinion not needed. It should have been reported and then left until the court reported what the results were. Then it should have been dropped. I also agree that it was a personal decision that Mr. Betz made.

Holy crap TOT... "With the taxes, the liberal laws and the influx of poverty I say move to a land of freedom, a state and a town that has a future."

I certainly hope you took (or take) your own advice. Negative people like you are a drag on Fulton County moving forward.

Hey Portnoy, It is unfortunate that people do not understand that it is your fault when you break the law. Why would you even think about blaming DA Sira about anything to do with this case? She is just doing her job and she is very good at what she does as DA. Whether Peter Betz is good at what he does or not, he made the decision to steal from the County and he is being held liable for his actions as he should be.

There are consequences for the decisions we make and Betz's decision was undeniably poor.

More importantly, the public should be questioning Betz's motive because the theft of county property cannot be easily dismissed.

And Portnoy, if the theft had been handled behind closed doors some of those on here decrying it was made public would be the same people then complaining about a cover up. I hope you don't actually think the theft would have remained a secret. When more than one person has knowledge of something, it is no longer a secret. Nor, IMO, should this incident have remained a secret.

If a young person is interested enough to stay in Fulton county I question their intelligence to do any job. With the taxes, the liberal laws and the influx of poverty I say move to a land of freedom, a state and a town that has a future. We are killing ourselves here in Fulton County NY and people are afraid to fight back!

I do like your idea Anna but maybe the criteria for the job would be too much for younger people. This type of job is well suited for a retired person or stay at home parent. An Eagle Scout or computer savvy young volunteer working along side would be a perfect fit and should be encouraged. I think the moral of this story is that regardless of the scope of this incident no one should ever get so 'comfortable' with their job that they forget about good judgement.

While I didn't think it was necessary to rehash to whole Betz story yet again, when hiring for this position, lets look toward our youth to get them involved. Is there someone working toward an Eagle Scout that could help? Is there a young historian, ready with internet researching skills who might be interested, maybe with some supervision? This is a perfect way to get our younger generations interested in our vast history along with learning respect for what came before them.
