How about we fix the tax code an simplify it? Remove the ability to be judgmental. Eliminate any and all deductions except for those deductions that are the cost of making the income. Then charge a flat 20% which includes SS. With a GDP of $15 trillion that gives the government $3 trillion to operate.

20 is okay but next year we need 22, the following year we need 23. there is no stopping them. But it's for the"(insert favorite down trodden group here)" we really need just a little more and we be really careful with your money while we are at our conferences thinking about how we can spend it.

Pards - It should start with 20% and drop to 10% to benefit the down trodden group known as the working class tax payer.

The IRS does not make mistakes, just ask them. The IRS is also the primary enforcement arm of OBAMACARE! I cannot see any problems that could arise from this relationship... a horrible piece of corrupt legislation being administered by an almighty unreachable and ever expanding government agency, what could go wrong?

I love when fake Conservatives come along and pretend to know what they're talking about with flat taxes.

It's the one time a person can earn millions of dollars per year and still claim to be 'working class.'

Let's see, eliminate a Fed. program that gives your money to someone else???!!!! Progressives constantly whine about subsidies yet don't want to end subsidies, only for their 'chosen' bad guys...read Capitalists and/or anyone with more than the laziest, uneducated dirt poor slug with no ambition. In other words their voting base. A Flat Tax for everyone will knock their collectivist ideology on their collective butts. Remember, a progressive's definition of 'fair' means 'devastation' to the rest of us.

MrBob, there you go again canning everyone into the same group.

What do you say to the fact that academics and blue-collared people are more likely to be Democrat than Republican? Are they 'lazy' and 'with no ambition'? Do they grant advanced degrees to those types of people? or that hard-working police- and firemen, steelworkers, factory workers, etc. are all lazy, too?

A flat tax is a nice thought but no matter where you set it the powers to be will want more.

So RS I see three posts in your name and not a word on IRS, but a comment against every single post that is not a leftist propaganda. I see your childish name calling continues though. As usual your brilliance is outshined by... well EVERYTHING!

I could care less and actually prefer you do not agree... it tells me that I am on the right side. Until you progressives give us your obnoxious demeaning post on how off topic we are all of the conservative posts are on topic. Just point to where you ever say something that isn't an insult or a blatant exaggeration... I am eager to see it!

Please point out to me an exaggeration.

Can you do that?

I'll wait.

The Leader-Herald should be embarrassed to have you staffed with them.

Rs, an exaggeration is what you claim to be. You're so obsessed with everybody elses education that you fail to realize all you got from education, aside of lining the pockets of liberal teachers, was indoctrination in equal outcome. All you had to do was read Rules For Radicals. I did and I use it against 'educated' people like you, it lets me live in your head rent free as evidenced by your constant trolling of my opinions. Since you like equal outcomes so much I would think a Flat Tax would appeal to you and other progressives.

Scarecrow57,

'OK, RS, what is wrong with a fair tax where everyone pays the same percentage regardless of lifestyle choices? '

That's called a facet socialism. And if President Obama or the Congress ever suggested that seriously, you'd be the first in line to call them socialists.

Also, it should be noted that the fake-conservative fla-tax crowd has nicely failed to mention that a flat tax from the IRS does NOT mean a-flat tax from the state or locales.

Some countries that had a flat-tax system at the federal level had combined taxes of nealry 50% when you factored in the state's or locale's tax.

But it's ok, let's continue to ignore the facts that exist.

Also, about the only people that continue to operate on the flat-tax at the federal level are former communist -stan Soviet bloc countries, and that's only because they're only JUST beginning to see their economies jump.

drugsrus, I see you're finally doing your research, albeit after you made your comments.

Again, just because PA has a flat tax doesn't mean PA doesn't have revenue problems, nor does it mean PA's system is flawless. And it certainly doesn't mean IRS and local taxes don't apply.

Additionally, many people on this 'newspaper's site have moaned how it's the local taxes (city, county, state) not necessarily the fed that is 'killing' them.

Gee RS, NYS, Ca, and the federal Government all have regressive taxes and they have real serious problems. What is wrong with treating everyone fairly and equally and charging everyone the same tax rate? Why should people who make lifestyle choices to get married and/or have children pay less in taxes. If anything they should pay more as they use more.
