The Brownfield grant is low-hanging fruit for these three sets of politicos to begin to set aside their petty power plays and personal past grievances and begin to play nice together. There will be little forward movement without better cooperation. United we stand, divided we stand pat. And the status quo just plain ol' ***** and makes officials less effective and leaves citizens in a high tax zone with few economic benefits and poorer for the lack of forward momentum.

Promoting tourism is a good idea. But lets get real about what brings tourist to an area. You need something that is of interest to a lot of people and you need something for the tourist to do that they enjoy doing. Having special events on weekend is also a good thing but that is not what will attract tourist. When you want tourist to come to your area it would not hurt to have places for them to stay over night or maybe a few days, it would also be a good idea to have the road ways in and out of the town cleaned of the many places with pure junk lining the roads. But then what do I know?

A poor legislative session is an understatement. All we got was lip service and nothing got done about scandals not the least of which was the hush money paid by Spkr. Silver regarding Mr. Lopez. It was suggsted last year that the state have a constitutional convention. That idea seems to have been swept under the carpet. By holding one, any number of proposed changes could be submitted to the voters regarding prosecution and penalties for misconduct of elected officials, Budgeting, oversite of the APA, Encon, etc. The list goes on and on regarding what needs to be addressed.

If I understand the Brownfields Opportunity Act correctly this would be an assessment study for remediation, benchmarks and future use at a cost of 10% of overall costs to local taxpayers. Actual cleanup costs come from the State's Superfund program at a cost of up to 20% for local taxpayers. The remaining costs are covered by all NY taxpayers. I'm not against cleaning up the mess, just against cleaning up and paying for someone elses mess. This is not 'free money', it's ours. The skin mills closed and left. Gloversville and Johnstown took over the properties and now we get hit with the cost of cleaning them up. For what? A new Park?

Agreed TOT. Stealing gas from the taxpayers is a crime, and so is turning in false paperwork.Something some of our locals folks do not regard as such though. They think its ok for some elected official to do that and he should not be picked on for it. They call it petty. I call it thieving.

paperman, i'm sure there would be a lot of people who disagree with you, like when Mr. Betz allegedly stole the coffeemaker and a slew of people came out to support him.

Now the shoe's on the other foot, right?

I thought that we are innocent unless proven guilty. Has there been a trial yet?
