Jeers to the LH, this time you blame others for posting this negative story that sheds a poor light on our city? You cannot shed a light on something that is not there. You shine a light but it has to bounce off of something or it shows nothing. We have allowed our city to degrade to this point and I hope that it isn't the point of no return. And secondly, the Leader posted this same VIRAL story to the internet as well. I saw this papers article on a number of facebook pages... pot calling the kettle black?

Yes! Well-said, TOT! I particularly am reminded of the brightness of the area while reading stories like the dude who enjoys watching the crews "hose down" a bridge. Didn't catch that one in the NY Times or Fox News.

With regard to the ice cream truck caper; Don't be so concerned about the misguided actions of 2 people, and the publicity it garnered. I think most people realize this is not a reflection on the city, but of these individuals. These 2 are being dealt with legally and their permit is not being renewed by the city. So if it did get national press, no big thing, in a way it was a bit hillarious

ice cream wars. Agreed that the people involved made assess of themselves and are getting what they deserve. But on the other hand it put Gloversville NY on the map who knows how much tourism this may generate? I would rather have this kind of publisity that all the shootings and murders that Albany is getting known for.

I dream of a day someday far in the future where a news crew visits our city and finds the brightest person here and interviews them as they beam some great news about our cities magnificent turnaround. A story about how the area has healed from its once declining lifestyle. One, like every time in the past where news people interview the "lady" in her pajamas with the guy with no teeth smiling brightly while they talk the tragic events that brought them here. Just like they find every time a news truck pulls up... yes I dream.

I agree with Disco about the beautiful windows that were basically just stolen from the church. This did not happen in the dark of night, but in broad daylight. With its close proximity to city hall, surely ONE of our city officials would have noticed ? This is a shame.

That church truly is an eyesore now and has followed the path of the Baptist church. It will eventually have to be taken down. Another city landmark has been lost to neglect and apathy.

One last thought on the Ice Cream War story... things must be great (or at least slow news days) in our country right now if the best story the news media can give is about a small towns business disagreement!

C'mon, loosen up. The Sno Cone Jo vs. Mr. Ding-a-Ling thing is pretty funny, as evidenced by all the late night parodies. There's an old saying that any publicity is good publicity.

As others have pointed out, this was front page news in the Leader-Herald, which was where everyone else picked up on it.

Perhaps the LH should publish more news and less fluff. A number of years ago, I asked my friend what the front page news was of the paper he was reading. I don't recall now what it was, but something of national interest. I showed him the LH's- "Dunkin Donuts to Close!". While it might be appropriate to publish that story, I don't think it should have been the headline.

Cheers to Fulton County's leadership for finally addressing the lack of a regional water and wastewater system that has plagued the county for decades. This area will not realized substantive economic development, despite the opining of EDC, CRG, CIC, or what ever they are calling themselves today, unless a regional water and wastewater system is developed. Gloversville and Johnstown wrongly desire to have the best of both worlds. This is not an option since no one from outside the region desires to relocate to the cities.

The concept of wholesale annexation of the town lands surrouding the cities is a concept that has run its course and is not an option for the future. The leaders of Gloversville and Johnstown need to finally begin to work with the county leaders to end their selfish stalemate that hurts the region's future.

Gloversville residents need to replace their excuse of a Mayor with someone with leadership abilities. The Mayor King follies must end in November.

I agree with the Architect........what has this mayor done ? Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. What has he done for downtown ? Again....nothing. Gloversville Curb appeal project ? Really ? Why not start with city hall as someone wrote to the LH today.

When were you here last Gibson ? You think the ice cream thing is "pretty funny". A lot of us still living here don't. We've had enough embarrassment for the past few years. We didn't need anymore.

It is amazing what the media choses to pick up on. Ice Cream wars but not the unveiling of a museum and commemorative home plate monument at Parkhurst Field/JAG Park, which celebrates over 100 years of baseball and all the knowledge which was lost history for generations. Why not celebrate (and find it newsworthy) that we have the oldest LL field in the country, which hosted MLB and HOF players for generations. Let's work to make THAT go viral!!

"The charges surrounding the "turf war" between two local ice cream vendors put those of us who live here in an unwelcome light." News flash...the "turf war" story didn't create the "unwelcome light" it's there for a while hanging out on porches, strolling up and down the streets with 4,5,6 kids when the rest of us our working, and the two arrested are just a product of the area.

Portnoy...they may wear them on their days off. and haven't you heard? People can have a source of (unreported)income and collect full benefits at the same time up until the point it is revealed that tens of thousands of dollars have been wrongfully handed out. Unfortunately the taxpayers never see any type of restitution. Sorry, totally off topic, but I absoulutely despise thieves and cheaters a/k/a system abusers!

How can you be off topic? We are having a discussion. As we communicate it invokes a thought that turns the conversation. You reply to the swayed conversation and it promotes more thought that may again alter the idea that began the discussion. But if logical thought turned the direction and leads to new ideas isn't that simply a progression of the original topic? Like the degrees of separation people have, might there also be a connection between the thoughts?

Jeers to Misleading and strong arming!! So apparently even centrist democrats are jumping off the Obama express! President Barack Obama bluntly told Sen. John McCain and other Republicans to lay off their attacks against U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice over the Benghazi assault, telling lawmakers that if they go after her "then you have a problem with me." Remember that line as they will be exposed this week by testimony about the Benghazi attack. The truth is about to be known. Hang on it is going to be a bumpy ride for you Clinton & Obama lovers!
